  • Looks Familiar?

I know very little really about website design, or how the processes involved work, but I do recognise (from time to time anyway!) two things that look the same.

I did a web search just now using a well known search engine for a heli related product, and one of the links that popped up was this one -> http://www.wattflyer.com/forums

It's RC related, it's all about electric flying - planes, helis etc, but when you start delving into the forums etc, it's appearance is damn near identical to this website.

    Why is this?

Look at the very bottom of the pages. The software powering the site is both V bulletin. Guess that's the 'format', bit like Excel or Word. (not that I'm an expert...far from it)

v bulletin is the nuts in forum making and websites, very versitile with regards to portal pages and add ons, i visit online gaming clan forums and they all use v bulletin forums, simple to setup and run without much hassle,

              hope this helps

                Well spotted.

So how does RcHelliaddict pay for V Bulletin's services (assuming of course that they are a business)?

Obviously there are no adverts on this site, and no cross-links to other sites, which is great, but begs the question none-the-less.

i think stuartn is the owner, you have to buy v bulletin to maintain the updates, my last clan payed about 80 quid for a lifetime subscrition or £25 a year i think correct me if im wrong its been a couple of years since i dealt with this type of thing,

can we donate to help maintain the website and any costs?

dont know if this has been brought up before.

Self funded.....no advertisements, but doesn't discourage commercial members, just open and fair. However, I don't appreciate new members who join to just post about other forums, or services in an underhand attempt to move members away from this forum. The licence I own for Vbulletin is owned and leased, its 100% mine to do with and change as I and the members see fit. If I want upgrades then I have to pay an annual fee.

Vbulletin is seen to be the worlds best format for online communities and has a massive level of coders all over playing around with code to add in mods. The latest being the plugin for Video's.

The gallery and classifieds, plus a reviews section I'm about to bring back online are paid for items and owned by me.

I also own http://www.hobbyaddict.net/ which I need to spend some time on intergrating into this site via a RSS feed for specific categories to list latest auctions.

You'd struggle to get people away from this forum. It's just too good. The best
