  • Which Pitch Gauge..?

I wasn't sure where to post this request. What do you all recommend for a newbie to purchase as a pitch gauge ???

  • #2
A pitch guage is a pitch guage to me like. Dont need anything fancy as long as it works.
I personally use a robbe pitch guage. Description on midland helis is:-
1-S1366 : Robbe Universal Pitch Guage
    UNIVERSAL PITCH ADJUSTMENT GAUGE
    Theres loads on here:- http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...addleGaug.html
Also depends what type of helis your planning on flying as theres micro ones for trex 450 size helis and then bigger ones which will do anything to be honest.

I've had a Robbe one - it broke

I've had a JR one - it broke

Now got a different one (dunno what sort and can't check as I'm not at home) from Skyline Models. It seems to be the most robust one I've had so far, and I like it a lot. It's brown and for nitro helis, not minis.

They often tend to have some physical weak points in the plastic mouldings which is where they can snap, especially when cold at the field in the winter.

When you get a man's size heli get the Robart gauge.

If its for a blade 400 then you can use a micro guage. If your planning on flying bigger nitro helis though, then id purchase a normal size guage as it will do all helis. They normally clamp shut or are on a spring so the bigger ones usually fit the micros too. I personally wouldnt spend too much money on one. Only reason i got the robbe one was because it was the only one my local model shop stocked at the time. I also have a K&S one which seems to be much thicker and better quality plastic. Its also alot smaller than the Robbe one. I suppose if you wanted one to last then go for a thicker plastic one or even aluminium.

The new Align pitch gauge looks rather snazzy and can measure pretty much any size heli blade (300mm to 700mm) +-15deg, and at £14 you'd hope it won't break after using it a couple of times:

              http://www.realraptors.co.uk/zen-car...oducts_id=3739

(Anyone actually got this who would recommend it?)

Align also do a well made one just for micro helis (so perfect for a Blade 400) for £10 (just search 'Align Micro Heli Pitch Gauge')

Alternatively if you want a cheap one for all sizes there's this one which is only £6.23! (although presumably more likely to break):

              http://www.lhc-rc.com/acatalog/Helic...ccesories.html

I've never actually used one though so I wouldn't even say it was an essential purchase for a newbie - I just set mine up to allow full movement mechanically and then on the TX's Swash menu set the Pitch rate to whatever flies nice, ie allow fast punchouts but without bogging (which for me is 37% on my 600N and 46% on my 450SEV2 on my FF7). Hope that helps

                esky pitch guage
This will fit a blade 400 and a trex600 size blade, and at 4.99! (but to get that price you need to buy something else as they have a £10 min on credit card!).

I bought one of these for 8.99 + p&p from fast lad.
It does 0-14 degrees (marked to 13).

I've had this pitch gauge for years and it's done everything I've flown from hornet's to logos. It does 15 degrees each way using a weighted needle.

It was cheap but it works well, no idea where I got it from though, the name is Miraham (have to check spelling later)

I've got the Robart gauge as well but hardly use it as the above one does just as good a job with less hassle. I've tried the other type of gauges listed without the needle and I was never happy they were accurate enough. Horses for courses I suppose.

1st time I used a pitch gauge for years was when I got my T-Rex 500 because people kept asking what pitch I was using and I hadn't got a clue

same here. fold the blades back and feel for the limits of the slop this will give you zero pitch.

If you have your mechanical setup right then it will also give you equal pitch either side of zero.

then you fly it... if it bogs you reduce the pitch.

                          Eye sight .

Brought a pitch gauge but I don't think much of the whole eyeball it up to the flybar and then mess around trying to find out the pitch method .
