  • Budget cordless drill for starting?!

    m Hey
Being a student and away from home i want to buy a cheap old cordless drill to get the old helis started when i'm away from home and the old car battery.

Soooo, i'v come across this and was jst wondering if anyone who knows what to look for in a good cordless drill can let me know if this looks like it would be adequait for an OS50hyper and an OS70

    Best regards

I'm not so sure mate, especially for an O.S 70.
I bought a budget 14.4V drill a few years back from B&Q similar sort of deal to start one of my RC cars which I'm sure was a smaller engine than a 50 hyper & it really struggled!

I eventually bought one of these

My 14.4v drill is struggling a bit in the cold weather to get my OS50 started. Just not spinning it fast enough.
I recently dug out my 12v starter again.

It worked fine all summer though.

Torque is no issue, its the revs so go for a drill with the fastest revs you can get.

Dunno about starting a 70, but it can't be much more compression than a 50 hyper.

The problem with cheap chordless drills IMHO is the charger is usually crap and toasts the batteries (because they want to quote a fast charge time). If you do buy a new one then charge the battery with your delta peak charger instead via croc clips and it should last better.

I have one of those rotostarts and it won't start an OS50 hyper!

I now use a proper starter with an old 11.1v 18c 2200mah lipo pack, works a treat!

They are only 7.2v and are quite fragile in comparison to the starter i now use.
Works fine with the HPI savage (RC car), but not enough grunt to start my hyper

                            a) did you reverse the drill?

                            b) Is you trex electric or nitro? For an electric trex you need the dewalt 24v A123 drill
