  • gl450 teething problems

i just bought a century gl 450 sec a couple of weeks ago and im at my wits end.
    1. 1st flight went terribly wrong,( wasmt my fault) the 2 fronts servo seemed to be faulty. so when i took of it went up and rolled taking out the blades, main shaft and fethering shaft. replaced all these parts and with a little fine tune tuning all seems fine.what id like some input to is the flight time from the standard battery. i only get about 3 minutes of flight time if that. what is the expected flight time form the standard battery, i did read somr where the standard battery is pants , is this true PLEASE HELP

Hate to tell you this mate but youll probably find there not teething problems and its partly the reason why very few people on here own a Century GL450. Hold tight though and im sure someone that has one will be along soon. I think the battery is pretty pants yeh. It will however get a little better after a few more cycles but, 3 minutes sounds awfully low mind??? You havent got any resistance in the system have you? In the gear mesh/tail etc?

you don't state what rating the lipo is, on a 2000mah you should be getting something like 5.30 - 6 mins
      All the best

I have a gl450 se and the battery gives me at least 6-8 mins. It's the rest of the thing I have probs with!!!! Same thing happend to me when I first flew mine as it did you. Now I've become semi pro at heli repairs and none fault of my own.I've got a tail twitch now and can't get to the bottom of it. Think I should have bought a 'trex' as it would have worked out cheaper in the long run:-(

i get around 6-7 mins on mine with circuits and hovering , no 3d,

i have 2 of the standard lipo , and as of yet had no problem with my servo's etc, my problem was an illegal TX but its now running off my esky TX. you could try upgrading the lipo to something more well known as anything that fits a Rex 450 will fir the GL,

did you charge the battery full ??

have you ran it to its last drop before charging again , are the stored somewhere cold, any of the above you may have damaged it , buy yourself another lipo if all else fails

I have a GL450SE and apart from the main blades being a little tight on purchase the whole thing flies exceptionally well.

I did have a crash with it when a gust of wind took it and I over compensated and down it came. I too bent the main shaft and the feathering shaft. When I put it back together I did not correctly tighten up the metal peice with grub screws under the swashplate which meant the main drive cogs were dragging on the chassis.

Also, once it was back together I had a horrible vibration on the heli at lowish RPM (1/4 throttle). I took it down to my local model shop and the guy they retracked the blades and now it is back to perfect once again. One of the blades was running 1/4 inch to low.

None of this is probably of help but that was my story.

Looking forward to getting my Raptor 50 Titan V3 today I hope. Buying it in kit form so looking forward to that little project.

                  Regards

found the problem. as someone mentioned above there was a little to much resistance between the motor and the main gear. i slackened of the motor and hey presto a good 6 minutes of flight time. good shout chaps. now all i have to do is learn how to fly :cheers2:

I get a decent run time from mine (well over 5min hovering) but the battery does get warm and bloated. Seems to be getting worse after about 20 cycles. Time for a new one I think.

The servos are junk. I've had 2 fail in flight and one stripped in, er, a heavy landing :blush5: I've swapped them for HS65MG* and used the old kit in something a little more tollerant of failure (light foamy glider).

                      * Also swapped the RX out for Futaba PCM unit. It wasn't playing up so far as I could tell but figured if I was upgrading servos I may as well have a clean, reliable signal driving them. Glad I did, it's suffered a few crash inducing glitches in the glider (albeit at longer range than I'd use the GL).

Touch wood, the gyro is working a treat.

Now if only I could get my hands on the gears to put it back together after the last servo crapped itself :(
