I spoke to Duncan on the Saturday of 3DM. He did his set moves at about 3'o'clock. He couldn't see his model properly for 20% of the time due to the sun straight in his face.

Luck of the draw when you fly and the same for all pilots but for this reason alone it would make sense to find another venue.

For those that have done the setting up and break-downs, I am sure they wont miss the quagmire that developed during the rainy season of 2007!

I agree with you there Andy but who says that there wont be the same and the sun more brighter and more in the face and hotter to the point pilots are sweating and engines running to hot, but if jeff looked around there is loads of places he could of moved the event to.
So to me there is a bigger reason behind it and i think its to line hes pocket plain and simple

There is plenty of old RAF bases, one place i was going to put forward for 3DC was BOUNRE AIRFIELD in cambridgeshire if they was looking for another venue

Why should profit be an issue Ade .

If it provides what heli flyers want I cannot see why there is a problem with someone making a few quid.

Mark, Barkston on the far side where the IMAC was being flown there is likely room enough. The vast majority of 3D flying takes place within 100m of the Pilot. I would guess approx 50% of the area required for a typicial F3C flightline would be enough?

Ive walked round Barkston on numerious occasions with the exception of the far side. The whole infrastructure is in place...but it would just be a one flightline affair. There is the potential for night flying I would think at the Pylon flying end too.

I do consider the other alternative a similiar idea to IRCHA Jamboree a much better option. Multi flightline operation is now most definetley a goer especially with 2.4ghz all but eliminating Radio problems. A disused airfield with no housing nearby (is there such a place) Mid Englandlandshire would be nice

Ideally a Peri track/runway for the Vehicles/stands/Spectators..heres a piccy from IRCHA's web site to give folk the idea for a layout. I reckon theres 15 stances in that photo.

Do you have a google map location I haven't a clue where it is - dumb question I know.

lots of airfields around the Lincoln area...

Swinderby between Newark and Lincoln. Scampton, just north of lincoln. both disused airfields.

All close to A1 dual carriageway link north and south. hotels in Newark and Lincoln etc.

Just caught up with this thread.

I'm very surprised and disappointed 3DM has been great attraction for us for the last three years. A fantastic weekend of flying and meeting friends along with the posibility of picking up a deal from the stands.

The one benefit I can see is the 3D champs will get a lot bigger which has to be a good thing as it was excellent last year. I'm guessing Rob & Mike have got their work cut out for them in 2009!
                        Cheers, Lee.

the 3d championship was ok.and i really hope it gets more spectators next year.i was shocked to at how few there were there spectating.and how late it started on sunday..but 3d masters is an international competition and 3d championship isnt going to replace that..well not yet anyway
yet charmouth in the spring was really busy/very exciting
also clubman 3d was good too..nice facilitys(bar haha)and lots of people there too
so clubman may do well yet.i hope it does anyway
                          cheers craig simmons

Swinderby would be an ideal location in my view.

                            http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...73214&t=h&z=14

I have an idea that may enable me to tap into potential regional and state funding for a big event. I'm at work tomorrow so will make some enquiries.
                            Cheers
