    Default clearcoat on the goblin

Received my Goblin yesterday and just reporting that the boom has a clearcoat finish :-) but the skids dont and the banding of colour is different width on each, no problem.

I did comment on Rob's build thread I think it was that a lot of the US guys heli's ahd the clearcoat on. Very strange that some have and some dont.

Perhaps FL's could tell us how many of theirs have it gel coated??

No clear coat on my boom. No clear on skids or fin. Paint on skids didn't match.

Have you raised this with your retailer? It'd be interesting to hear how SAB intend to resolve these issues

I've been reading a lot of posts complaining of poor QC on the goblin kits, especially as concerns cosmetic issues and the tail boom...

    Bit disappointing really!

I've already cancelled my pre-order due to some QC issues. I won't be spending £800 on a kit that's not 100%.

Once I know the kits are right, I'll pay

I did raise the issue with the retailer. To be fair they said I could return the kit for full refund. I opted to keep the kit and am waiting to see what SAB are going to do about it.

From the SAB website in reply to questions regarding quality issues and clear coat questions

please note the boom is not clear coated. It is handmade not machine made like the round shape booms. It is matted coated. We will improve the quality of the boom.

The Goblin looks like a really well engineered machine and it's a shame that they're willing to sacrifice the (potentially) good name with shoddy finishing on a couple of parts. They really should have addressed the problem prior to release.

Agreed but I'm glad the issues are only cosmetic and not quality of machined parts. A shoddy paint job etc won't crash my Heli on its maiden

I agree... the rest of the heli looks amazingly well engineered, it's the best I've seen and if I was in the market for a big heli (and had the money), it would definitely be my choice, but although it doesn't detract from the obvious quality of engineering, if I was paying that sort of money, I'd expect the whole helicopter to be perfect to the smallest detail.

Unfortunatly most are not, look at the issues with the xxtreme, canopy being the biggest issue and the spindle shaft bolts too big. Minor issues but still issues.

As early adopters we do have to accept that the chances are we will have issues and this is something I have to accept recently as if I see something I like I have to have, can't help myself so if issues do pop up as much as they may pee me off I accept that as an early adopter.

Where would we be if it were not for early adopters? A worse place I think
