    Default RCHA Insurance for 2012

Today the postman delivered our policy documents for 2012 as mentioned before I was going to bring this back into the memberships packs for this year onwards.

We have gone through another broker to Royal Sun Alliance and secured a £5m 3rd Party Public Liability with them with a few conditions. Before we get the comprisons between us and you know who.

This is NOT a like for like policy the key fundemental element is to provide cover for 3rd Party Public Liability we are NOT doing personal accident cover. The view being that we need to ensure we aren't exposing the policy to undue risk and quite frankly if your concerned about hurting yourself then there are millions of PA policies on the market not to mention many are inc in home policies etc. There unfortunately will not be cover for turbines this year but we will look to build on many little extra elements as we grow.

Should clubs with to be affillitated they will be covered under our Employers Liability for £5m and includes cover for events.

Under the affiliation there will be NO obligation to make flyers take our policy the requirement being that the clubs must give there members the right to choose who they wish to support individually. In addition the clubs will have the opportunity to use our equipment when avialable and as it grows more and more will become avialable and with other facilities too.

I will be adding the policy documents etc into the store and like the last time all will be 100% downloadable and covers issues via online & e-mails. We will be sending our member packs which inc ontop of the e-mailed info our RCHA Lanyard, Pen and Sticker.

How Much is it £20.00 for 12mths cover.

Potentially yes, but if you fly at a club you will need to talk to them about it first to see if they are going to accept it as adequate for club membership.

Stuart, I'm not sure if I'm interpreting what you have written correctly, but it sounds like you are not trying to go for equivalence with BMFA this time?

Your correct we are not providing a like for like therefore the old arguements should not happen. Its effectively what feel is sufficient cover for flyers in the EU.

All flyers want to know is that they have 3rd party public liability and member to member cover set to £5m. We could have increased to £10m but again its not warranted for the majority of flyers. Plus the CAA have acknowledged that £5m is enough.

Nitro it all depends on your circumstances if your a country flyer then you have a choice. If your in a club then the club need to decide its path effectively there is an option for all clubs to give that choice to its members.

I havent been a member of the bmfa for two years and i have no intention to return.

Can you please expand on this info please? I'm looking to distance myself from the BMFA as I'm not a fan. Here on the Isle of Man we have to pay about £70 a year (due in January I might add!). That includes BMFA insurance and the Manx Model Flyers slice on top. I don't actually know what that extra money goes towards since the club has never done anything through the year of any interest and the field I fly at in Douglas is free and not under the control of the club, just a farmer who has given up permission to use his field.

Any thoughts on where I stand? If I can sack off the BMFA and the MMF all together as long as I'm covered for 3rd party insurance?

Does anyone currently fly at the field who is not an MMF member?

If the farmer has given general permission to the public to fly there you would not seem to need club membership.

    Thanks Stuart.

I can wait for the rest of the details once the policy documents are available to view.

Too late for many clubs to consider for 2012 I suspect, but hopefully it is going to run for more than one year so plenty of time to figure things out for 2013.

I'm not sure to be honest, however the general consensus has been that of they are, they should have it, but only because the actual rules haven't been given. There is the main flying site at the north of the Island that is an old airfield which is a proper MMF site, but this is simply a farmers field which can be used for flying, the only restriction is no nitro at the site.

I agree that I don't need MMF membership. I'll be taking on RCHA insurance for sure this year :-)

Just to be safe, check with the farmer, if he says anyone can fly there regardless of MMF membership then you are good to go.

Don't just assume it is going to be OK.
