The policy states "Anywhere in the UK & Europe"

Bit of a tricky one for now yes - but given the circumstances around the EU I suppose the shape of the EU will possibly change over the next 12mths+ so it abit up in the air. I would expect a few insurance companies will have re-writing there documents to work alongside any major changes in the EU.

Stuart, you may be more familiar with this than me, but I doubt there will be any re-writing as all the policies I've seen use the word 'Europe' not 'EU' and generally have a clear definition of what they include in 'Europe' as membership of the EU has nothing to do with the geographic term Europe. Consider Switzerland for example.

Here is a definition clause from one policy I have to hand at the moment, you probably will find something similar in the wording of your policy:

'Area 1 The Continent of Europewest of the Ural Mountains, Madeira, Canary Islands, the Azores, Mediterranean Islands, and non–European countries bordering the Mediterranean. Travel to the following countries (excluding your home country): Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Channel Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Kazakstan (west of Ural River), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation (west of Ural Mountains), San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Vatican City. Including all Islands in the Medeterranean, and the Atlantic Islands: Azores (Portugal), Canary Islands (Spain), Madeira (Portugal). Including Non-European countries bordering the Medeterranean: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey.'

Your right Mark but also given then uncertain times I'm not sure what if anything will change I dont see a need to change anything but again if countries are suffering from civil unrest there maybe a blanket removal of cover regardless of what there covering within certain current EU countries. Again I think it would have to be something major but I doubt anyone would have thought 5 years ago the World economic climate would have been in the state it is today.

Its abit like comparing apples and oranges to be honest. We aren't focused on all flyers we are only looking to support and assist those within the helicopter fraternity we don't sell insurance its simply now included within the membership for 2012 if a flying member. We are very much in contact with various bodies from the CAA to Ofcom and even had discussions with ofcom regarding the recent DX8 issues and spoke directly with HH on the issue too.

We hold the RCHA Flyin in Lincolnshire with the help of Eagles RC Helicopter club and work throughout the year towards putting on a great event for people to come and join in. Only this week we took delivery of a monster clapometer for our event next year which will be a part of a new element.

We simply feel that we can make a difference for all our helicopter fraternity not just competitions or flyins but ALL and put the investment back into the hobby with quality equipment for clubs to gain access too - our Gazebo cost over £1000 and once we have our carry box for it any club can book it for there own flyins and/or we might bring it down ourselves and camp the weekend but we also have sound meter, speedgun and now a monster clapometer, soon to be 6 flags, 2 banners and more on the pipeline.

I want to see flyin's where the public see the full setup and are drawn to see what's going on because it looks professional and 110% spot on and help to sew the seeds of enthusiasm for the hobby from both kids to adults.

At our last flyin the biggest thing for me was when a 5 year old girl from the public asked for a go of a mcpx, that's why we will have also a mini comp to encourage the kids to have a go and we will be talking to lincolnshire tourism about doing some partnership marketing if possible.

We have the beginnings of an achievement scheme built by heli flyers and its will some very well respected heli flyers at the moment being fine tuned to hopefully get the balance right.
    gazebo.jpgIMG_2964.jpgIMG_2957.jpg

At the end of the day its a choice and its something thats needed in mine and others view and remember there are some 10k+ flyers out there that are not attached to any clubs so its helps to give them a option too not to mention we capture as much information from what discipline you fly to the type of flying to prefer to hopefully help us have a better idea of what our members want.

    Its all good....

I know this has been done to death but, what are the implications of joining both the bmfa and rhca. and the problems of having 2 insurance policies in the event of a crash?

Please don't speculate if your answering, just facts would be helpful! so maybe mark_T could answer at least then we'll have a definitive reply

you can count me in Stuart if i'm needed in anyway i personally think the RCHA will be a great move and me and Stuart have got some big plans for the RCHA flying next year,

every year its going from strenght to strength and a great event but every event needs event insurance too
and because Eagle Rc Heli Club are the host for the event it works great for us, with no problems.

    Hi Ron

Unlike the last time in 2010 this time both the RCHA & BMFA's are underwritten by the same company Royal Sun Alliance.

The BMFA have new insurance brokers this year and have a greatly improved insurance package, which isn't underwritten by Royal Sun Alliance.
