    Default FPV Flying....

I have been tinkering on/off with FPV gear

    I have learn't

    1. Do as I have always said buy right buy ONCE LMAO

    2. Stick to Rule one

I now have a Skywalker not pretty to look at but then when i'm flying it I'm not looking at it LMAO and it does not win in aerobatics department either

But it flys well enough and its certainly very very different to normal flying..

a video from one of todays flights

    Hi

Don't suppose you could post or email me your exact spec your using, my bros bought all the FPV stuff and hes get interference within 40-50 meters out, just loses signal.
Can you list every thing, just incase he's missed some thing.

    Cheers

Nice work Mark, are you using any OSD - it would be good to know your set up.

This FPV thing is catching on - I now have two FPV aircraft (Skywalker and FPV Raptor -2 meter wingspan) and I'm building a hexacopter for FPV as well. I did have a Bixler but that got stuck up a very tall tree and is still there! I too am using 5.8ghz for the video but I'm using Futaba 35mhz for the tx/rx rather than my spektrum 2.4ghz. I use a lot of Eagletree stuff which I like a lot.

I'm also getting into wings as well because I want to have the same fun as the Team Blacksheep chaps have! So I'm going to build a Ritewing Zephyr II.

The nice thing is that my Company now distributes both Eagletree and Zephy II's here in the UK, so my wife can't complain about me "having to try out the equipment" - lol

Have fun with your FPV - it's addictive.

Scooby, there are a lot of things that can cause the interference, most of them are as a result of either poor antenna transmission/reception and/or electrical interference caused by the wiring arrangement on the aircraft. Can you list what kit your brothers got and what frequencies you are using for the video (eg 5.8ghz) and radio gear (ie 2.4ghz). How many milliwatts of transmission power is the FPV tx using (ie 25mw or maybe even higher such as 200mw)? I assume you are using standard antenna's (rubber duck)?

    Cheers,
    Simon

I'll send you a PM but:

•***Keep the video transmitter well clear of the GPS module
•***Keep the video transmitter well clear of the R/C receiver and it’s antenna
•***Keep the OSD as far as possible from the GPS module
•***Keep the camera away from the R/C receiver and it’s antenna
**Keep the OSD away from the R/C receiver if possible

    Based on this:
•***The GPS module can be close to the R/C receiver and it’s antenna
•***The video transmitter can be close to the camera
•***The camera can be close to the OSD
**The ESC can be close to the camera and OSD

One should also take care to:
    •***Use twisted cables where possible
•***Use clip-on chokes for groups of cables
•***Keep the servo and control cables as a group, away from the receiver
•***Keep all cables as short as possible
•***Keep ESC cables away from the video cables if not shielded

If your on 5.8ghz you want a set of these:

    My plane is

Skywalker 40Amp ESC 9/6 Prop the stuff they recommend basically

Radio Gear Futaba 2.4ghz Fasst its proven to reach like 6/7km in the USA but I'm going to be happy with 2km after all LoS is not as far as you think even with 1.9meter span plane and stay Legal

Plus on a glider a few years ago we had that at 1250 meters so I know my kit has range

OSD is Cyclops OSD it works well enough as well

Using 500mw is quite a lot of power (especially as the legal limit is 25mw for 5.8ghz!) and the antennas that you are using will - or should - give a good signal. So it looks as though you are getting external interference. Have you looked through the various FPV forums for some guidance - take a look at the UK one - FPV UK - Index

As mentioned before, placement of electronics is important because they may cause the interference that you described if they are too close to each other - maybe adjusting the location will help.

    Cheers,
    Simon

I suspect antenna placement as well...

I loose all signal when flying directly towards myself because my li-po kills the signal!!

this is a good forum as well:

    Cheers,
    Hi Simon,
actually I have not done much FPV flying lately, probably 2-3 flights in the last few months on someone else's plane. But I have an Skywalker X8 (video below) that needs FPV gear to be installed. The only thing holding it back it making some circular polirised aerials.

Note, the power system spec at the video below is wrong. It was filmed/edited by a friend that acquired the wrong info from another friend. And I am not responsible for the swearing at the end either ... the plane landed safely 50-80m further down. The folding blades locked and the entire motor vibrated and came of the plane due to an oversight on my part. I thought I could get away with forward blade stops only.

I managed to get out today and thankfully my batteries had enough life in them to allow me 3 flights...

This time video taken with a go pro but a tad cloudy as well

uTube has destroyed the video though as in last few mins it starts to rain but the uTube upload you cannot see it but on the source video you can !
