Default Day off - what could possibly go wrong?

So, wife & kids out. Have the whole day to myself to go flying. What could go wrong?

This is what happens when a wing fails in flight......

Not far off what my Extra 300 ended up like. My fault though, forgot to put the carbon wing spar rod in... Was funny as hell watching the wings flex up and down like a birds wings before they fell off!

Ouch! Bad luck dude. What happened? Part failure or pushed to far?

Yep. It's an it irvine tutor 2 trainer. I bought it mainly for my son who is learning but I quite enjoy flying it.

Totally stock with recommended electric motor. Not souped up by me for a change.

Was in a full throttle fairly gentle dive web the wings folded.

    Quite a spectacular demise!

I did that on purpose to my PZ Trojan (it had had way too many crash/repairs and was time to get retired). Took me 3 good full alpha attmepts to break the wings though. Awesome sight though like you say.

Balsa and zap-a-gap... it will be as good as new.....

Looks like it was the retracts that stuck caused it to fall apart

My mates plane had a similar funny as hell demise!!!! He was in hot pursuit of a seagull that obviously was aware of the fact it was being chased by a foamy. The bird did a few quick turns ... my mate tried to copy it and keep up.... when both the wings folded and fell off due to the angle of the turn being too tight. I was in stitches... bloody hilarious!!!!

Full throttle, gentle dive on any decent trainer will cause no structural failure. Take it back to the shop, and do a Basil Fawlty on them. Irvine are initially reponsible for the quality or lack of in the kit, but it's the supplier who has the ultimate onus to make good defective products. Too many folk just shrug, put it down to bad luck etc and the manufacturers get away with it and keep churning out junk. Been caught like this myself. Good luck with it, keep us posted.

I have seen a mates trainer 'clap hands' in a full throttle dive that he pulled out of a bit too harshly. Spent a good couple of hours scouring the scrub at Chobham Common looking for the fuz afterwards... is there an obvious fault in the wing construction, lack of glue etc...

I must admit I've not seen a Trainer wing fail in the middle before pulling out of a hard dive.

Having teached a few club flyers pulling them out of hard dives not unusual either, Never had wings fail though!

I'd wonder if enough Glue or right glue was used to stick the wings together.
