yeah your right going to be a challenge to beat huskeyboy but i'll give it a good go. hope to have it flying by the summer should have plenty of time to get it done as the misses has just started shiftwork and so should have more time to myself going to make a new cowl out of fiberglass which should be fun. the glow converted petrol engine should be lots of fun to play with i've been looking into the fuel it needs turns out to be a 1/3glow to 2/3 petrol mix so should be cheap to run

I've been thinking about engines too and deciding what version of Spitfire to restore this to... I've got big plans and I want to do you guys proud, so (looking in to my crystal ball) I see a trip to the model shop in my immediate future...

If only there was a way to give an RC engine the proper spitfire 'drone'... or maybe there is...

The little spit in the plans says its uses 25 to 40 or 50 if i remember. i had a OS 30 2stroke in there, that was anouth to get it off the ground and flying, but CofG was way out, we even put lead in the nose bay to try sort it out. i think you be best looking at a 4 stroke to put in there as that will help on CofG, as my plank buddy that few this for me, found that on slow turns like getting ready to land and also with less fule in there he was fighting to stop it going in to a stall.

I'd like to give it plenty of ooomph and create something really high quality, so I'm thinking of a full strip down, clean and rebuild, looking for realism against the real thing (i.e. paint, insignia, pilot, exhaust pipes etc) as well as performance that does justice to the original Spit.

4-stroke engine it probably is then... maybe something like this...

    http://www.westlondonmodels.com/prod...70-Surpass-II/

I want to go for something like a Zinger 4-blade prop to maintain the look and I'm quite prepared to put some proper effort in to get as realistic as possible. I did consider a polished metal skin with RAF insignia, but not sure how feasible that is... worth a bit of research I reckon...

This is a good look though...

I used to build the large balsa wood and tissue paper gliders from plans and did tons of Airfix kits and loads of other engineering stuff (my Dad's a retired metallugist and I'm a Yorkshireman so we had steam engines and stuff ), so I can't wait to get started!

Get this... my Dad once carved a beautiful 2-blade propellor by hand out of a solid block of wood. I didn't really understand at the time, but looking back it was an amazing thing to do!

    You getting nervous yet Glen...
