Red face Gone 12s in the fusion 50

After the bearings failed in my scorpion i have decided to convert from 10 to 12s.
I have swapped out the motor for a 600mx 510kv powered by a cc ice 80hv and will run 2x opti 3500 6s packs.I have also decided to run edge 623 instead of the 600's,they are now on the 600 pro.

Hopefully get to have a flight or 2 tomorrow and can't wait

Interested to see what you think Nick as this is my exact setup apart from the ICE. What size pinion, the 13 looks to give the most consistent headspeed.

My target Hs is 1850 2050 and 2150.The ice gov tells me i need a 15t to stay below 95%.I have a 13 & 14 just in case.

I used mr Mels HS calculator and the hs at the end of the flight was something like 2050 with a 13. Is it not the case that the hs would be governed to 2100 but there would be enough grunt left in the packs to give the 2050 towards the end of the flight. New to this so trying to understand a bit better

Not sure mate,im like you i think when it comes to electrikery.

With the CC software it says i couldnt run 2150 with a 13T in the govs 'happy zone'

    What ESC you using?

With Castle ESCs, I have always found that you need to go 2 teeth higher when running the gov, compared to running curves.

Hopefully Align will address this, as it could cause a pain with the fixed pinion (even though its an excellent idea).

What I would like to see is a mount with pre-drilled holes. So for a 20t pinion use holes 1+7, for 18t use holes 2+3 etc

12S is where it's at on the Fusion , looking good Nick, you'll have to report back one flown.

I was talking to a club member Andy on Saturday and what he was explaining was that it's not the hs at the start or the mid or average thats important but what you can expect after a 4.5 min flight or so. So using the headspeed calculator and approximate efficiency values etc it came up with the finishing hs of 2050. I am aiming for 2100 so my thinking was that this was easy achievable as the hs at the start of the pack could be as high as 3700 or so. So me being me and this being the case I'm thinking that as it will be governed (YGE) to 2100 I am being conservative and a good headspeed can be maintained all across the packs. Or am I completely wrong and someone far more informed will educate me.

    That sounds about right,Dave

Well i had 4 flights today on the fusion,3 x 4mins to gently break in the packs and fine tune the esc.I have settled on 1850 2100 and 2200 and after the 4th flight of 6m 10 seconds i had 30% left,i never spanked it so will set the timer at 6mins...im loving it although i loved it before i have gone from 11degrees to 12 and its very poppy

Any idea why 12S is better than 6S? Is it cheaper to double amps rather than volts? Is it motors, lipos, or escs that limit you on 6S. Do you have to be careful with the 50V? I think I've had shocks before from 24V. Long time ago. 12V seems good at the moment.

Proving they are geared the same there is much less amps needed for the same watts (power), so there is higher efficiency in the ESC and wiring/connections. The ESC and packs have a much easier life on double the voltage, you can tell by the temperatures .

Between 10S and 12S the difference is not massive, but between 6S and 12S there is quite some difference .

No danger of shocks, but don't go sticking your tongue on it... The danger is when you go above 14S where it can go through skin and at these amps our batteries can provide I wouldn't ever want to see that...
