John I admire your spirit, there are no boundaries when job hunting and thinking / searching outside of normal accepted limits is what will get you a job in the end!

I have recently been able to take a fella on in my place but I have to say I have far more respect for the young lads that occasionally approach my warehouse offering to hand in a CV, no I can't take them on instantly but they have got the gumption to get out there and look I admire them and wish them well.

Keep looking and don't sit back waiting for someone to offer you a job, life isn't like that you have to work damn hard at getting the position in front of my hundreds of others.

Good luck and keep networking any site you can

There are jobs out there mate, and good for you for wanting one! Try uploading your CV to various websites, take them around to shops/businesses etc...
I know it's not ideal but have you considered volunteering to start with? I did. I also Did everything I could to impress the manager, and within 3 weeks I was offered a full time job. 18 months later I'm still there. So it's worth a try. And I'm sure if you worked for the right company, they'd give you a little bit of cash to show their appriciation...

You need to look at what people want and what you want as well in terms of future employment. When I was at school a long time ago I had a photographic business and payed for a good camera out of it. There's usually something you can do that needs an investment to be able to do a particular job to a high standard. It could be anything. There are also usually jobs going in Burgher place. It isn't a brilliant job but it shows that you can do a difficult job and that you have the drive to go out and find it. One of my sons worked in a TV rentals shop. He was going into Chemistry but found out he could work with people and ended up doing Medicine. On the other hand if you want to work in a lab you'd be better off not getting a job and getting good grades.

People usually want website work done and if you want to go that route eventually (Electronics/IT) this would be a good way in.

Good jobs usually want people to be self starters.

    What can you offer?

Are you looking for skilled or unskilled work?

What are your interests (apart from helis)?

What sector are you interested in?

I got my current job (the one I'm just about to leave) 10 years ago by simply asking the major players in my trade after I was made redundant. The job I'm about to change to next month - I was approached by a competitor in the market place.

My expertise is at the top end of drain maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair. Our industry is quite transient with guys coming in and out all the time. Some simply don't like working with poo, others just don't get bovvered by it. After all, we all do it! There are chaps out there at the sharp end on vans who make even more money than I do as an office based expert/trainer on a salary, but they work long hours and very hard for it. They also are usually incentified by earning a commission, which is not always best for the customer and often gets companies in our sector a bad name, but is none-the-less, the way many firms operate in this field.

    Where there's sh1te, there's money.

What ever you do don't go Into the motor trade. It's rubbish and after 6/7 yrs you will be fed up like I am. Have to spend thousands on tools and get treated like poo.
Iv now gone back to college to better my english grade as my others were ok. All c and above.
My aim is to try and get in the Raf as a aircraft technician or within the aerospace industry. We have British airways in Cardiff and soon a new aircraft maintenance place opening at the former Raf st athan base.

There is a lot of crap about. People do seem to be treated badly quite a lot.

Sorry but LOL garages are always "prank" enviroments, i wanted to go into the motor industry but its rubbish somwent electrical engineer, then ended up in sales. If you have the get up and go then sales is a very good route, every one hates them but the money is there to be had. Find yourself a place with a good basic and you will go far in sales. Plus benefits like company car, fuel card, mobile phone, laptop, lunch allowance etc are worth a good chunk of a normal salary.
