Not sure you need to hover "dead steady". If you can hover to land and hover after take-off before orientating yourself for flight that should be fine. It is nice to hover but if you can keep the heli within a certain size box (others will need to chime in here) that should be fine. I hover reasonably steady then drift a little but tend to keep with a 1-2m box on the horizontal and about 1m or less vertically. It is possible to become anal about perfect steady hovering that you never actually move on to anything else. Was close to that myself at one point. Then you think, hell, I can hold a reasonable hover - time to try something else

    Have fun.

The trick is to not rush it everyone learns at their own rate, just enjoy the journey. Its a great hobby so welcome.

oh and learn not to let it get too near you as you have found out even the little ones bite!

Dx6i,sim then mcpx in that order my friend

The dx6i and the sim will teach you what the dx6i can do in terms of playing with its settings (DR/Expo etc)

Then don't cut the grass for a while and then fly the mcpx over it

If you're quick to cut the throttle before it hits the deck crashes are usually free which is a massive bonus as a beginner
