Bloody typical, I have been waiting for a new MSR pnp for 6 weeks as I had fried the 5 in 1, then the day it turns up I realised that I had not been on the forum much recently and blow me down find out about this little so and so. Sounds like absolutely the ideal next heli for me.
Pico z * 2 (I know they arent 'proper' helis but they are to blame)
MCX - Got bored after a fairly short time.
MSR * 2 (my current favourite)
    SR -as yet unflown

Well I had a fly of Chickenhawks 120 SR today, and I have to say, what a nice little heli
As you would expect it does have a very similar feel to the mSR but looks much nicer in the air with its larger size and you get the feeling your flying a heli rather than a toy.

Gave it a bit of a fly round the living room to begin with, but then the temptation to have a go outside was too great It flew well but it really was a bit too windy for it today and it kept shooting up when a gust caught it, so decided to stop there. Didn't want to loose his brand new heli over a wall

    Conclusion....
The heli looks well made and I would image it will prove to be pretty crash resistant.
Flies nicely, very stable in a hover and has a slightly more realistic feel to the mSR with its extra weight. Only problem I could see is, its a little too big to enjoy flying at its best in your average living room, although hovering and small gentle circuits shouldn't be a problem.
The 120SR gets a thumbs up from me

Sounds like you guys are havin alot of fun with this new little heli.... It does look the business.... Ive had my eye on it for a few months now... My only problem is.., i already have two good indoor helis and a 450 which is proving a pig to fly.... How do you think the 120 will perform out side as i really could use a neat little heli for garden/field flying...?

It'll be OK if flown in Very light winds (3-4mph) But it really would be better kept for inside flying, or totally calm days.

Flying outside is best left to the 450's or larger tbh.

Looks to small to fly outdoors. Especially in this country.

    Hey all,

I got the 120 a week or so ago, only one battery, bound to my dx6i, flying it with longer swash arms and switch on adv rates.

Indoors: Not great at home in the garage, too big to fly but ok for hovering around, will get boring unless you have a gym or something to fly in, also beware, gym doesnt have grass, if you crash you break and this is not an msr, it will break more easily.

Outdoors calm day: Flown it in my garden and then open space, better with no obstacles, awesome heli, VERY quick and a lot of fun to fly. If kept at a certain height youre unlikely to crash it. Its very responsive and flies very nicely, feels like a bigger heli.

Outdoors windy day: I personally think with some wind (obviously not really strong wind) the heli becomes even more fun to fly, it flies fine even against the wind, gets a bit wilder and much more nice and challenging but if the pilot doesn't panic, it wont crash or fly away.
(Scardinius, it flies great outdoors with some wind!) remember to use longer arms and + rates. Flown outdoors will be a great help for training for a bigger CP heli, for orientation control and also confidence. In the wind is twitchy and when you get used to control twitchy stuff it will be easier when you start with bigger helis. I say: A lot of simulator + a lot of 120 SR = half job done for a ccpm.

Overall I think it's a perfect beginner helicopter (I am one, I find it's like a proper heli, might be the speed..), indoors if you got space to train slow motion and outdoors on any average day (as long as not heavy winds), so, if you want some grown-up heli fun, you don't feel like splashing money on 450 parts yet, just looking at your MCX makes you fall asleep and your MSR is in pieces from banging all over your house walls, go for it!! 100%!! And I reckon experienced pilots will enjoy this too!

Beware: The tail rotor is not very firm on the axle so you might lose it in the grass or if you hit anything. get a few spares, they sell them separately for like 2 pounds. So are the swashplate arms ( I lost 2 already, they give you 3 spares in the box).
The landing gear sometimes comes off the frame and ends up in the main gear, thia can cause crashes and damage. Maybe some CA (Externally so if it breaks you want have the plastic bit stuck in the hole) will help. It felt a bit "dry" when i first flown it, so I added a very tiny quantity of teflon lube to gears and its now more silent and feels more responsive (obviously my imagination, but makes me feel better)

I cant stress enough: If you want to fly outdoors in the wind its fine, but you want to use the longer arms on the swashplate along with higher rates, much more power and control like that.

    Hope this was useful.

    Default 120sr

Thanks buddy.. That was some review...! its good to hear what people really think and not just what the shop tells you.

I am still very new to this flying lark and jumped straight in with a Blade400 which has proven too much of a handful.. So about a month ago i decided to take a step back and learn on a smaller ( easier to fly ) machine. I had seen the 120sr advertised but Horizon said it would be October or November before they where released...? So i went for a CX3... big mistake.. Nice looking heli but the first one crashed after the swash plate came apart in mid flight so back to the shop.. a week later a brand new replacement arrived... had a play with it today and it just spins round and round... there is no rudder control at all. Tried altering the motor mix and nothing... I thought EFLITE " test flew all their products at the factory so all you have to do is charge the battery and fly"...? Absolute BOXXXCKS...!!! If that heli was test flown im the queen mother..!!!

Neadless to say that to will be returning to the shop next week and im thinking of paying the extra and going for either the Msr or the 120sr... i must admit to prefering the 120sr due to its extra size and thats why i asked about the outdoor use as i would get the erge to take it for a spin round the garden... as well as the lounge ( when the missus is out ) and in the warehouse at work.

Will it be possibly too much of a handfull for a newbie on the outer swashplate settings...... and what TX settings would you suggest for the great outdoors...?

    Thanks again, Simon.

I'd think carefully about where you are going to fly it the most then decide.

The 120SR is really too big for most normal homes, but fine in the garden if it is well sheltered.

The MSR is small enough to fly inside, but it can rapidly build up speed so a decent amount of space is advisable. It cannot be flown outside reliably except with pretty much zero wind conditions.

Well.., ive given into temptation and am now a very happy 120SR owner...
Ive not been able to give her a proper fly round yet but definatley impressed so far... The chap @ Midland helis was rather impressed with her as well...!!

    Just a couple of questions....

    1. What timer settings are you guys flying yours on..? Ive bnf mine to my DX6i and its come up @ 6 mins... is this about right or can you get more flight time without killing the lipo...?

    2. Has any one heard any more about when we are going to see lipos in stock as i know once i get properly up and running with her im gonna want more than one lipo...as im sure some of you have already found...!!!

    Thanks

I was wondering about trying one of these batteries
    Robot Birds

Its much wider than the stock on 34mm as opposed to around 18mm, so wouldn't fit in the battery holder. The simplest would be velcro to the bottom of the canopy. Plus would need to solder on a JST connector lead, but price is good!
I may be ordering some bits from there, will post if I try one.

Yo HP...............set mine to 5 mins on the old DX6i......check how hot the battery gets you will be suprised.

Have been regularly surfing the intercyberwebnet thingy re batts for the 120 but have come up empty.

Everyone is showing out of stock....even the Septics across The Pond cannot seem to get them.

I am lucky I have two 120Srs so I have got two batteries.....woooohoooo.
10 mins of flying until I have to stop and recharge.
By the way doesn't the charger remind you of either Knight Rider or a Cylon invader when the battery is fully charged
