  • Fbl Article MHW

There's probably one of the best if not the best article I've ever read in MHW this month. It's by a guy called Jim Davey and its a detailed explanation of SAS systems. He even explains the origins of the fly bar and how both versions bell/hiller work. A good read and well worth the price, I'm reading it again as some of it went a bit over my head the first time

Read it myself and will need to read it a few more times as I was lost on the first page!

Really well written though, nice history then moving onto the SAS bit. I'm the same though, I'll need a few goes at it.

Jim Davey has been around in the hobby since the dawn of time.
Really nice guy who I met a few times years ago, also incredibly knowledgeable in all aspects of the sport.
He was editor of MHW in the early days before moving to the USA.

He gives a bit of history, very candidly, on his job and the design of stabilisation for planes. It's a really good read, very impressed.

As my mate Andy says theres those that know their shit and theres those that know their shit and he knows his shit. Love meeting people like that, the young uns can fly but the oldies invented it

            15minutes of fame!

            Thank you

Jon Tanner pointed me at this forum so I dropped in to say hi.

He has asked me to write a part 2 and I am thinking about it.

            Regards from California.

You'd be able to get it if you subscribe to the online version Kev and I did ask John Tanner if I could add a copy here, maybe you could help me with this Jim. John had no problem with it being added as long as there was no copying and you were given the credit.

Had a bit of tuition from Jim back in the day when he lived in Gloucestershire and he flew a few times with us at Glos model heli club.

                              Sunnyvale - Nice! :-)

I sometimes travel to the Bay Area with work (Foster City and Mountain View). Almost always fantastic weather there (almost all the year too!) Where do you fly locally?

Look forward to reading the FBL article in MHW (and on here hopefully!)

                              Thanks,
