  • 550sx tail servo setup

Just finished installing the servo's and on the tail servo rod I have nowhere near 90 degrees on my servo horn/pitch slider.

It seems as if the tail rod is too long .

I don't want to risk over tightening of the adjusters on either end of the rod (I have about 3mm of the threaded bar visible at the moment)

I can probably pinch another couple of mm by moving the tail assembly further out and tighteng the belt but doesn't look enough to achieve 90 deg.

    Any thoughts please?

    Cheers

    Re: 550sx tail servo setup

I have about 1mm visible rod on each end and my arm is spot on.

    These rods are really tight!

i have my rod squeezed as tight as possible, servo at 90 degrees but not central on tail slider which in turn gives me quite odd numbers in the v-bar tail setup,i am experiencing an unwanted tail kick in hard pitch changeovers eg rainbows or general pitch pumps,i guess there are two ways out of it,1,if you havnt allready epoxied the rod,cut it shorter or if like me,you allready have, perhaps move the servo horn slightly off 90degrees,i am going to try it like this at the weekend,i probably have to only move it 1 spline back toward the front of the helicopter,if this doesnt work i will order new rod etc and cut it down,i wonder if there are varying lenghts of rod being thrown into the kits as some have no trouble and others do,i cannot possibly get the belt any tighter to lenghten the distance between servo and bell crank

Epoxying the ends on and just leaving on a bench can allow the ends to move out before the epoxy sets.I always pin my rods down on a bench to set.

I did epoxy the boom supports wrongly on my 500se and the next day i got two more and fitted correctly. Then i picked up a wrong one and twisted the link on the end and the epoxy join gave way LOL so i didn't need to buy new ones LOL

I would try and get the ends off or buy a new rod.

          Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll just crack on with the setup and see how it goes. I don't mind if the servo horn is slightly off 90 but at the moment it miles off. Ill tighten the rod up fully so no thread is visible.

If its miles out of trim then ill have to get another rod. Wish I hadn't epoxied it so early but I was just going through the build page by page. Ill be pinning the bloody thing down next time though.

Still time for a maiden this weekend. Fingers crossed
