  • How to mount the receiver battery?

I just received a 2100mah LiFe 2S from Hobby King. It looks like it is perfect for a receiver pack except for one thing... I thought it would fit betaeen the frames of my Trex 600E but it is too wide. My bad! I didn't check the dimensions. Now I have it I'd like to use it so I wondered if I could mount it on the outside of the frame? Perhaps with velcro and perhaps a battery strap? It is a Trex 600E.

If anyone has mounted your receiver pack on the outside of the frame (any model) you couldn't do me a big favour and post a pic could you? I like to get an idea of what others are doing before I decide how to mount it myself. I don't want to do anything silly.

    Ta.

A similar thing happened to me - except I did measure it LOL.

Mines a 550 but its all the same on a 600 so heres how I initially mounted mine, with double sided sticky foam pad (to raise the battery away from any screw heads etc), Velcro and two velcro straps to secure it.

However, after building the model and going through the setup, I decided to move the battery further back to get the CoG right (My 40C lipos were heavier than I thought lol) - so I moved it to here:

Again, just strapped to the side, foam, velcro & straps.

I've done about 30 flights with it like this and its been fine.

Note that I have strapped the battery to the opposite side of the ESC, I don't believe it makes too much of a difference but it helps to distribute the weight as best you can.

Which 600E do you have the 6S or the 12s?

Post a photo of the frame if you can - it won't matter too much where you stick the battery on a 600 - as long as the CoG is right.

      Thanks Young Gun.

I shall post a photo over the next couple of days as I am rather busy tomorrow with work but I can see that will work. I too have a 550E FBL so I shall be doing the same on that once I have the 600 sorted. My 600 is the older version with 6S.

I think I could use a lipo instead of the LiFe. I know the lipo will be higher voltage but I am using a BEC so that will be fine unless the BEC fails. Possible I suppose but unlikely. I see you are using a 2S lipo. I have a spare 3S lipo I could try and that would fit nicely in the frame. Weight is not that much heavier.

      Pics later then. Thanks again.

I have 2 Nano Tech Life fitted to the side of 2 of my Trex 550. The 600 would mount the same.

          Hi Paul,

I'm using a 2s lipo connected directly into the system, since I'm using HV servos. If they were standard servos I'd use a LiFe pack plugged in directly. I prefer to keep away from regulators as best I can.

Also worth noting I use an ec3 connector on the main wires of the battery and make up my own power bus for the RX/vbar the little servo plug that comes on these RX packs is left redundant.

i used to have a 600 6s, the battery mounts on the front just like the 550... In which case you could try mounting the RX battery on top of the flight battery (although depends on how heavy the lipo is with cog)

or mount it on the underside of the battery tray or on any side frame.

            Thanks for your help.

For now I am trying with a 3S lipo. It sits perfectly inside the frame. I have put aside the LiFe packs for now and see how this goes.

Update... I didn't like the 3S set up. It just felt wrong tbh. I have replaced the 3S lipo with a 2S LiFePO. Voltage is 7.4V at absolute peak but nearer 5.5-6.6V for most of the time I would guess. Velcro'ed and cable tied to side of frame. Looks fine.

Sounds good.. It works well, just have to keep an eye on flights vs capacity put in. =)

I use between 150mah and 180mah per flight. I never fly more than 6 flights and more often fly no more than 5.

Is there no space to put it underneath with velcro and a strap?
I have it like that on my 630 and works great!

It would fit underneath but it wouldn't be neat. The battery is quite wide, wider than the frame, so it would overhang the sides. On the side of the frame it is a neat and tidy installation.
