  • T-Rex 250 canopy grommets

Has anyone tried using cnc canopy grommets meant for a 450 on the 250, ones like these -> CNC 10X Canopy Mounting Grommets T-REX 450 silver | eBay

What other mounts/grommets do you use ?

I find the canopy is too tight and the Align grommets are like soft cheese and it is making the canopy holes go out of shape so the grommets just push out.

Lol - been there and got the T-shirt.

OK - yes, I have used the CNC canopy grommets and I am actually currently using them. Not only are they better than the align rubbers, but they also provide a bit of strength around the canopy nut area.
I have also tried an array of canopies and now I only use the align canopy as a "dress" canopy. I too find them too tight.

I also have an Esky Honeybee and one day, I tried that canopy and I have been using it ever since to fly with (I even bought an extra 5 canopies all for 5 pounds including postage from ebay!). It's much bigger than the 250 canopy (about a 300 size if they ever made one), but it fits easily and even allows me to use some 3S 1000mAh batteries on the 250. I can get it on and off in less than a second - with no struggling!
It is however difficult to recommend this canopy as it is cheap, tacky, flimsy & looks odd - but with the CNC grommets - it works very well for me.

So with the Align 250 canopy do you have to make the holes a lot bigger to take the cnc 450 grommets and to they fit the 250 posts ok ?

When you way the Honeybee canopy are you talking about this one

Yep, the holes have to be made bigger and I used a dremel. To use the CNC grommets on the 450 canopy, you still need to make the holes bigger also.

Yes - that is the Esky canopy I use - not pretty lol. Works well - just get the C of G right.

Oh right I will get some cnc grommets ordered, the only place I can find them is on ebay from Hong Kong or China.

I have lots of Honeybee parts in the loft I shall go and dig out the canopies thanks for the suggestion.

Lol - too true, but ... If you crash - you won't mind damaging the canopy.

Oh yes, I just dremeled a small semi-circle on the canopy next to the linkage rods to stop them chaffing.
Jobs a good 'un lol ;-)
