  • AR7200bx suddenly lowering and funny vibration

    Hi All
As I've been flying a little later in the windy conditions with my trex 500, I've noticed a few oddities now I know the 500 will susceptible to some wind but what I'm finding is that if hovering in the wind if the wind drops a little the heli will suddenly drop vertically about a 0.5-1m regardless of its orientation to the wind direction. Is there a setting where I can try and reduce this sudden fall? I know it could be a lot of variables but my settings are a V curve on the throttle and my pitch goes from -10 to 10 and I've say my head speed was about 2500rpm at a guess.

Also today I noticed that when (this is the only time i've noticed it) the transmitter vibrated to tell me the time was up the heli also vibrated quiet hard, I'm don't think it vibrated that much that is shock the sticks in my fingers but could be wrong but I've never seen it before.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
Have you checked your DX8 doesn't have any of these gimbal problems or listed on the recall? The model vibrating when the DX8 vibrates is not right...if the DX8 is playing up it could possibly explain the drop in altitude as well. I'm sure someone with more beastx experience than me will be along soon enough but none of my 7200bx's do that...

    Cheers

You're talking about a sudden drop in translational lift. This is normal and part of flying a helicopter .... If the heli drops because the wind stops, give it a bit of extra collective to compensate.

PS. You can turn the vibe off on a per model basis. Go into the Timer option and select "tone only". As I say, the drop is just aerodynamics ...

            Thanks all for the comments

I'll check the gimbals I guess when I get in to work tomorrow as I've left my gear in there.

With the translational lift wouldn't I see the heli rise when the wind picks up also? which I don't notice only the sudden drop? Also I do correct with the collective but normally the heli sees the wind before I do therefore the model drops.

Thanks I know I can turn the vibe off, just found it a bit strange today as I've been flying the model with the same settings for about 2.5 months and this is the first time i've seen it.

You'll always notice the drop more because of gravity. An increase in lift due to wind will have an effect, but you're battling gravity so it's going to be slight.

As Newton discovered, things like to move downwards quickly when given a chance ....

I was thinking it might be something to do with the auto correction for the flybar less stuff as it corrects for the cyclic from drift etc so thought it may also be doing something on the collective as when the wind blows it starts to correct for possible drift then when it stops theres still lots of correction still being applied making it drop quicker

Nope. Most Flybarless units have 3 axis gyros corresponding to Roll, Pitch and Yaw. They can't detect vertical translation to the best of my knowledge. In this respect, they mimic a flybar quite accurately. Some control the collective insofar that they're doing the CCPM mixing, but in real terms (auto correction) it's cyclic only.

Collective is all down to you
