    hi all

anyone know if quantum ec5 connectors you put the plastic shroud on the wires first before soldering or push the connections in afterwards while the metal is still hot ?
i have not used this brand before so a bit unsure about which way round you do it.

    regards

The quantums are hte ones you have to put the plastic bit on the wire before soldering then PULL it into place.

      I personally hate this style.

as above the blue sleeve needs to go on first. These are tricky connectors but my system uses a vice a spare connector, a socket driver and a mallet.

        1. blue sleeve on first,
        2. solder one connector on first
        3. move to vice, so that the wire is dangling through vice grips and blue bit rests on the lips of the vice grips, with the connector facing up
        4. put spare opposite connector on this connector (this stops the male connectors from deforming)
        5. put the socket driver head over the connector, so the connector goes into head of the socket driver
        6. light tap with the mallet on the socket driver
        7. repeat for the other connector.

There's no defence, these are far more cumbersome but i found using the above technique I managed to rattle trough a bunch of leads in not time.

        hope this makes sense
