  • Turningy 9XR - any good for spare / 2nd TX

My nephew is starting to enjoy using phoenix and I am thinking of getting him a plank (I have heard it's a good to start off with then a heli), Of course I will be flying it

Now currently he is using my DX6I on phoenix and im thinking of getting something cheap and module based.
I'm thinking that having a module based TX will also help if I get anything secondhand that uses Futaba on a plank.

I nearly bought one. They haven't been out long and the first batch had an issue where they wouldn't work in the cold as a button got stuck. Not sure if they've fixed it...

i think your be better off getting a used dx6i for about the same price. If you really want you could plug a module into the trainer socket on the dx6i by the looks of the wiring diagrams I looked at.

Just get a futaba Steve! and bin the spekky! Youll never need another radio!

I wouldnt trust any heli with any orange or turnigy radio, just too risky. I know Futaba are expensive but they rarely fail unlike some spektrums seem to.

Im using an old 35mhz 7c, no need for anything else aslong as I use decent dual conversion pcm recievers ill never have a problem either!

I paid £70 for my radio off here, and you can get recievers for a tenner on the bay

Here's a two part review of the Turningy 9XR you might want to watch before you make a decision:

This guy does a lot of reviews of HK stuff so might be worth a trawl through his channel.

Not looked at the videos yet, but like Kev said would I trust it with my 400 or a plank (for the nephew).
I think it was the price I was drawn by.

Yeah the price is awesome mate, and I wish Futaba were that cheap. But with a heli especially, they can kill people so id rather have a reputable product over saving a few quid. Even if that reputable product is second hand id prefer it over a new un reputable one
