  • heli engine test stand

Anyone built/got one of these to save me reinventing?
I've just been going through a mare with my engines and refitting them to test then pulling them back out is a pain....

just engines do a nice cheapish stand.

you screw it to a block of wood, then mount that to a workbench/workmate

works a treat, I have one

Mounting the engine isn't really a problem - easy enough to make that up.. it was more the issues of needing some prop adapter/prop to flick start or whether to leave clutch system on and add a top start system to any test stand and throttle control.

Find a plank site that will give you the correct size prop to load the engine. Find the prop adapter hub (they used to provide one on the OS 50 when I first started in helicopters and woodruff key) for your engine and possibly get a spinner. I used my electric starter as I left the cup on it.

You will need to take the clutch off and put a prop on. For a 50 size an 11-7 would do fine.

you can flick start the engine with the prop.

use a wooden stick and flick it so the the prop is spinning anti clockwise from the front.
