  • Trex 250SE converted to DFC

I'm toying with converting my 250SE to a DFC head. While I'm at it is it possible to convert to the torque tube for the tail also . Or is this not worth doing?

From a Flybarred SE to a Flybarless DFC -> Yes it is worth doing.
Torque tube conversion - probably not.

Do you really need to get the new style swash plate or will it be fine with the original?

You can use the old swashplate - I did, but later changed to the new one after a crash. Looking at both of them now -> The geometry is slightly better for flybarless units (eg. beast X etc) on the new swashplate compared to the old.
The real reason why the swash was changed by Align was to reduce stress on the links - IMHO (& experience), this was not really an issue on the 250.

Thanks for the help! I will prob leave it with the standard for now like you did then and change it if it gets damaged.

She flys really well much better than before converting to DFC. Only thing I might have to do is upgrade the motor standard does not seem powerful enough.

I have just done mine and had to shorten the servo links to the swash a fair amount to get zero at mid stick.
Do you have measurements for this? I just guessed but have got fairly close.
If I can find the right measurements might make up a new set as was a bit rough.

I haven't had a decent flight with it yet as been trying to get it to a flyable state. Started as a copter x 250 and the head and tail were so bad was never going to work. Ended up rolling it over on take off with 3.0 3GX doh. So upgraded to align DFC head and tail and version 3.1 3GX. Flash backs to the 500 rolling over on V1.2. Then V2 came out first improvement "will not tip on take off" now version 3.1 improvements "improved take off and landings" Talk about going around in circles. Any way much better but still wagged. So upgraded to a MKS95i tail servo and that worked much much better. Was able to start flying it around a bit and getting the tail gain up enough to stop it drifting. So few quick flights before work to start dialing it in and a cyclic servo packed up and in she went.......... guess the emax servos at less than 3 quid are not so great.

So now upgraded cyclic servos to MKS 92. They are super fast and strong so hopefully makes it better again. Was getting a bit wobbly on the cyclic before during moves but super stable in hover.

Got back together and checking over for a flight this morning and realized the main shaft was bent. Not the top it is straight the bottom where the main gear attaches. So pulled the main shaft and realized the main bearings are toast as well. So need to get some more parts before I can test it out again.

Will let you know how It goes. Hopefully it flys good as got some nice servos all round now and 3GX with align head and tail. Not much else to change form here. ....

Buying a cheap clone has certainly not worked for me. Have spent more than just buying a Align DFC kit. Better servos so hopefully helps.

Had to test out if the cheap stuff works in this hobby but certainly hasn't at this point.

I know this is an older thread, but wanted to ask a question. I've got a 250SE and have ordered the DFC head and swash to convert it. I've read that some modification needs to be made to the main shaft (the new one) and there's an issue with the grips having a space that shouldn't be there (where the pitch arm connects to the grips). Has this been resolved? Did any of you have to make any modifications to get the DFC head installed on the older 250?
