Probably going to go against what most people think here, that DFC is possibly not an upgrade (IMO) from a more conventional fbl head with a swash follower/driver. On my Trex 550 that I had a while ago now, I converted it from fb to fbl and went straight for the DFC head so really didn't have much to compare the differences to, I did however build another fbl 550 for a mate of mine which had the standard 3g fbl head on it. I personally thought when test flying his model that it felt better but really couldn't put my finger on why at the time so carried on with the DFC head on my 550, they were similar spec Beastx heli's and set up the same.
Fast forward to the 700e DFC that I bought when they came out....I've been really impressed overall with the 700 and it had, until buying a Rave and YS 120, been my every day model that I flew the most but I can't explain it but I just couldn't get it completely 'locked', very good but just not quite there. This has been compounded by flying the Rave. The Rave is just so different in every way really, a big tall heli which just looks massive compared to my DFC yet it just feels better in the air than the 700.
So this has made me look at the DFC head on my 700 and first thought was to just put on a v2 head with the integrated followers to see if this improved/changed the feel, although you cant use a v2 main shaft on the v3 frame as it's not long enough to reach the bottom bearing block, but I still really liked the lower stance of the DFC which led me onto the KDE head.
The quality out of the packet is really nice, you get the KDE block, pitch arms and the pitch control links from the swash (which are a proper turnbuckle) so you need the blade grips, feather shaft etc, control arms and standard swash for the conversion. It uses the DFC main shaft so the KDE head only adds 10mm to the total height of the head.
So far i'm really pleased with how it's turned out, looks very nice, but not had a chance yet to give it a proper session so can't tell yet if it has improved things, this weekend hopefully though.
