  • Hitec + 3GX

Anyone on here hooked up the optima 7 or 9 with 3gx?

I am just about there in terms of understanding the theory but can't find much online where others have done it.

    Hey.

Yes, it can be done but you have to use the supplied patch leads which come with the 3GX. These hook up your Optima receiver to the 3GX.

You may have to work out the various channel assignments, but the manual will show you the connections for each coloured wire.

      It's a piece of ****.

Follow the standard rx wiring guide in the 3gx client software, using the coloured patch cables to connect the optima to the 3gx unit. Connect power to the 3gx first and then use the white/red/black patch cable to pass-thru power to the optima, the white cable is the gov gain signal and the red/black provide the power to the optima.

I've gone a slightly different route as I have a dual output power reg. I'm powering the 3gx as normal, but power the optima via the SPC port. The optima doesn't need power to the servo bus, as the optima only provides signals to the 3gx. I've removed the red/black from the patch cable and retained the white signal cable for the gov channel.

Looks something like this, not the best picture.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you get stuck

Thanks very much guys - been struggling with this all week!

For some weird reason the heli also has a REC 600 Govenor separate, I assume I should just attach the throttle servo and the lead from that direct into the RX and Bypass the 3gx?

Nope, unless the gov on the 3gx is broken, ditch the g600 altogether. Connect the gov sensor into the port on the 3gx unit and the throttle servo to the 3gx. You'll need to plug the white/red/black patch cable into the bottom right horizontal connection on the 3gx and then into the optima, to whichever channel you have assigned the gov gain too. Mine is ch7 i think, check the chan assignment on your tx.

If you don't have a dual output reg, then you'll be doing this anyway since that is how you supply power to the optima from the 3gx.

Yay we have life finally - thanks guys.

Ok need to work on channel assignment as nothing is working as expected (apart from the tail) but step in the right direction. 3gx powers up, managed to re-route the gov as suggested, though I guess need to check its actually working etc.

Guess I need to watch the finless vid on the Aurora9 now get the channel assignments right!
