  • Rail blades on FB heli ?

    A long shot I know; Has anyone tried the Rail 606s on a flybarred heli?

    Everything I have read about them sounds good and I am thinking about trying them on a flybarred heli even though the Rails are FBL blades. The reason I'd try this is because no one makes an FAI blade in 600 size, so with the more outbound spanwise C of G of FBL blades it might be the closest thing to an FAI flybar blade in that size.

    I am tempted by the 15% off deal on the flybar Edge blades but I have two thoughts on them;

    1. If they really are 126 grams that's very light and the stability in windy conditions might not be too great. They should be very poppy and fast but maybe just a bit too light.

    2. Some of the guys I fly with have the Edge FBL blades, so if I got a pair of Rails I could always persuade one of them to let me try the Edges and I could let them try the Rails.

    Then lastly, 3. I might convert that heli to FBL or move over to a FBL airframe in the not too distant future.

    I don't know about the rails but I ran fbl mavveriks on my Fury 55 for ages. It really does smooth it out, almost like running F3C blades on a 90.

      I would have thought that FBL blades on a FB would suit F3C flying as you're generally not wanting to have quick cyclics, and from memory FBL and F3C blades used to be heavier than the 3D blades.

      I've only used Edge FBL blades and I found them to be quite aggressive and, not as nice to use as the Radix that I normally use, but FL had them in as B grade stock so I thought why not This is my personal opinion though so they may suit your flying style better than they did mine.

        I'm going to try the Rail 606s and just take a chance. I think they're supposed to weigh about 140 grams which would be the same as standard Radix or the TT blades I have. At the very least they do look cool

            Since this thread surfaced again ... I have now flown the SDX with Rail 606s and my first impression is they didn't feel much different to the standard Radix 600s but I need to fly them a bit more and then switch back to the Radix. I was also noticing a wobble at hovering speed, almost like the blades being out of balance and I had not noticed that with the Radix blades so I need to see what's going on there if it's just a resonant vibration or something. I get a similar thing with one of my Robbes where at a certain headspeed it shakes a bit and then below or above that it's fine.

            The Rails are certainly not sluggish though, they're just as quick as the Radix. By comparison if you fly a .90 heli with standard Radix and then switch to the Radix FAI blades it's like suddenly flying in molasas, they feel sooooo much heavier.
