  • Life battery voltage in DX7

I've not used LiFe batteries before but I need a new battery for the DX7. I've put in the ZippyMax 3S 1800mah 5C from HobbyKing. I charged it to 10.8V and then found the volts drop quite quickly to 10.0V and it seems to be staying there. Is this usual, Lipos stay pretty close to their charge volts. I intend using it down to 9V, unless anyone else has different experience.

Ouch, I'd hate to have to rely on voltage with LiFe.. I've a feeling it would shoot past 3.0v/cell quicker than you can land. Do you have a charger you can do a ~100mA time/voltage discharge plot with, with your specific battery?

Yes. I was hoping to avoid that. I'll only be flying small indoor stuff at 9.0V. I'll probably recharge a lot sooner. Testing is always better than opinion though, and often quite different.

I think it is quite normal, see the graph at the bottom of this page . You have 3.3V most of the time per cell, giving 9.9V for 3 cells (when the fully charged is 3.6 x 3 = 10.8)

Thanks for the article. It looks as though 9V is ok for a very short flight, but a bit greedy. 9.3V looks about right for a tx drain of around 0.1C. Probably 9.5V would be a good time to charge. So it's a narrow range of voltage from 10.0 to 9.5.
