  • Rubbing fuel tank

After only two flights my fuel tank has worn away around the rear frame tank mounts by a fair amount and im worried that another two flights and it will have worn through completely! I had sanded the frame edges prior to building but that obviously isnt the fix. Anyone else had this problem and what can i do to stop it?

    cheers Tony

could you not slice some fuel tube down the side and slip it over the edge as like a kind of edging strip??
Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

Thanks for the heads up Tony! I better check mine. To be fair I am running the new engine so has no hard flights yet.
But I see if I can find a solution, if there is a problem!

It was suggested before i built it to sand the frames around the grommets but it needs a better solution really.

So is it vibration based Tony or pressure in the tank or a combination of both

Id say both Dave, Theres no obvious vibes other than the norm with a nitro but im reluctant to wedge something inbetween the tank and the frames incase it transfers vibes and foams the fuel, thats what the grommets are there for afterall.

Not a bad shout, the avant rubbers are quite deep and would have more chance of staying put

I've got a load of this stuff:

                          3337ada313eac1ea4d5d560b9d92145e.jpg

I think it's made from nylon and will go around quite tight radiuses - just cut it to length and it grips onto the carbon frame with the smooth face towards the tank.

I bought a load of it from someone off this forum (apologies - can't remember who), and I'm not sure where you'd buy it new.

If you measure around the tank hole in the frame with a bit of string or something and double it for two sides, let me know how much you need and stick a bit in the post.

Mine is doing the same. I think the tank is slightly over size, maybe a poor moulding.
                            Cheers,
