  • Wiring bec pro

On my rave I ran a seperate rx pack to run vbar / servos, on the logo space is not as generous so I have decided to run the bec pro from the flight pack (10s)
How do you guys do this ? Do I splice into the powerjive leads or solder both leads into the EC5 ??? Some pics would really help cheers

I know the chance if a failure is slim but I would still like use of servos to auto. What is a buffer this is unknown territory to me ?

There you go. This is what I use on my logo 700, the Bec powers the avionics as normal but the backup guard sits in the sideline waiting to take over if the Bec fails.

That looks and interesting and inexpensive bit of kit. I'm guessing its a capacitor that stores just enough power to get you down ?

I use a scorpion device in my logo 700 too. It's based on a 2s lipo (so need to be running an hv setup - if you're not on HV go for a lower voltage NiMh buffer pack).

The 2s lipo doesn't charge off your main packs but if you turn it on after you power up and remember to switch off after you've powered down the charge last ages.

Works a treat (only tested by unplugging the power to the esc) no interruption to supply and they're really good value!

Thanks Simon you saved me some typing

quick Edit: you don't need to be running a HV setup, just a setup that's above 5.8 volts if I remember correctly.

Sorry Sean - I'd forgotten that - just checked manual on scorpion site and it confirms >5v input required to save draining.

                    Cheers.

If you do decide to use your bec pro, the easiest thing would be to solder both leads into your EC5.

I have built the Y part of the 12S harness into the ESC wiring, so that I can have 6S into the bec pro, and then 12S across the ESC. That also means that I can power up all of the electronics, bar the ESC for pulling logs/setting up, so I dont have to worry about pulling the motor wires.

If you can hold on til I get home in the morning I will fire you off some photos.... im stuck doing nights this week

Sorry Don, completely forgot to upload this yesterday... if you change your mind and go for the BEC pro, this is how I did it.

                          photo(29).JPG

The +ve and -ve for the Bec pro come out of the right EC5, as well as the -ve to the ESC and the link across to the other part of the serial Y harness for the 12S setup. That way the Bec pro only sees 6S not 12S/

                              Don

This is what I use as a buffer pack in my electrics, 4.8v nimh which works fine and will charge off the flight packs and is CHEAP. :-)

I have a servo extension cable to spare port in rx and plug the buffer in after the flight packs. Occasionally i'll power up the system from the buffer just to check it, then unplug it and reboot again using the flight packs. If you plug the buffer in first you'll not know for sure that your bec is working properly. :-)
