  • introducing a weak link into the align DFC head ?

hello everyone , hope you all got some good flying in despite the cold . i have been flying and crashing my 550 or 600 DFC align helis , one set of electronics that i share between the two , now i crashed loads last year with the original EFL head on and not once did i do a cyclic servo , yet now i have the dfc fitted , i bust a servo every time , i know i could change back but i actually like the way the dfc flys , sooooo , i was thinking ,how about changing the metal servo horns for a heavy duty plastic one , and i would hope this would break in the crash first ? does anyone thing this might work ? cheers ady

This has been discussed a number of times. The problem you have is that (as far as I'm aware) there are no plastic gears available for full size Align servos. There are for mini (500 size) servos and the solution there is to just use plastic like I do.

The nature of a DFC setup means that your going to break something like a servo, a swash plate or a blade grip in a crash. It just depends on where the force is directed at the most or which area is weakest. Seemingly the metal servos are in this case.

I just use plastic horns. Saves a set of gears every time. Only servos broke recently was cuz I fitted metal horns. Not no more thou.

I use the plastic futaba wheels on my 600 and in the few scrapes I've had the teeth on the wheels strip rather than the servo gears. I don't use metal arms or wheels for that reason ;-)

Yep plastic horns are the way to go.
Oh and maybe a bit more sim practice if your crashing that much ;-)

oh yes they are HOWEVER they also have a sacrificial plastic gear! I know cos ive broke enough of them racing rallyx buggies!! I used to have a stock pile of them!!

the number in a savox part number is the clue if it starts 0 it has atleast one plastic sacrificial gear if it starts 1 theyre all metal

I was a sponsored driver when i raced buggies and I was asked to run Savox exclusively so theres not a lot I dont know about them! And If i dont know my best mate is the northern area sales rep for CML

And as the above pic shows on the dude anyway , is a dfc hub , but with a swash driver n links . It's about 6mm lower than the EFL hub , I mate at the field has used a quick swash so he can use the dfc main shaft , but he has kept the full efl hub etc on his 550 , so I thought I'd try it , but as I don't have a quick swash I have had to use the standard shaft
