  • Very weird problem!!

The same servo (aileron) keeps going dicky! On the 3rd set of servos, same problem, now on the second BeastX unit, same problem!!!

Heli is a 450 Sport V2 with DFC head, using 1 satellite Rx, servos on the right frequency and voltage (YGE ESC BEC on 6v), no binding. The servos are KST DS115MG's (same as MKS DS95).

On all 4 occasions the aileron servo will move very fast up and down by itself or totally loose its centre (but always moves down to roughly the same position!), it will stay in this downward position and will respond to stick input but will bounce around when giving a fast input and suddenly stopping.

Im convinced its down to the satellite reception but would this cause only one perticular servo to behave irratically???

I don't know what to do next!

Do you have a solid light on your satelite after this happens? maybe send the unit off for a checkover

Wiring maybe? Short somewhere between FBL and servo?

Tony, do you mean send the satellite off for testing or the beastx?

              Very weird problem!!

Just remembered one thing - is the sattelite DSM2 or DSMX? And is your DX8 set to DSM2 or DSMX? Also, is your receiver a AR7200BX? I seem to recall a warning that "strange thing" will happen if you have a mismatch somewhere between sattelite<>rx<>tx. Don't remember any details now but it was implied that AR7200BX only supports DSMX satteliites.

Both ideally, is this a spektrum beast x and is your satelite blinking after this happens?

try without the satelite, if its a spektrum BX you dont need it anyway

Definitely sounds like a suspect Rx/sat, or patch cable to me.

Its a standard beastx with a separate dsm2 satellite bound to a dx7. Hmm so maybe it's a faulty satellite sending weird signals to that one channel?

No blinking light when it goes weird.

Bronek, I have had binding problems in the past with binding using my dx7 but with a dsmx rx, it worked but not with a beastx as it took so long to bind the beastx would initialise before getting a signal sending the servos all out of whack!

I'd start by finding out if all 4 servos have a common fault. Digital servos can produce very high currents and can damage commutators. This shows up as a sticky motor. The motor is open circuit in one position and ok in all others. If this is the case then we need to look for the cause. It could be the size of the mounting hole, the position of the servo or the load presented by the head. Reducing the bec to 5V may cure the problem. Or you can use the MKS individual voltage regulators which will reduce the max current available to each servo.

Have these servos failed during use or after a crash? The other thing to do is to monitor the current and temperature of all servos while the servos are running. You may also need to measure the forces or the currents involved while flying. The current can be measured with telemetry.

Is this your only heli? If it is then I;d start by checking your tx servo ourput screen..it may be a dodgy pot there..see if it glitches on that screen and in phoenix.
Afer that i'd look at wiring routes, chafing and cables before blaming rx/beastx/servos

No not my only heli, I have 4 others plus Phoenix sim which are all fine. Its the only heli I have that uses just a Satellite Rx though. I have changed the Satellite and rebound it to my DX7. Only thing to do now is to fork out for yet another servo and test it over and over again on the bench then gingerly put her back in the air!

All I want to know is is it actually possible that a faulty Satellite Rx connected to the BeastX could be sending weird signals to a perticular channel on the BeastX causing the servo to burn out? (I have no idea how it all works!)

There is a new level of firmware for the BeastX (3.0.12) which may fix this problem. If you have a search on Helifreak there is a guy on there saying he has a development version of firmware (3.0.11 from memory) that has a fix for a problem that sounds the same as yours.

Cheers for that Steve but I think that's only to stop the servos going to the extremes before the beastx initialises. I guess there is a chance the 2 could be related?
