  • 3GX Firmware upgrade question - possibly silly...

I have just downloaded and upgraded the 3GX firmware from V2.1 to V3.0 - Do I now have to go through all the 3GX set up parameters again, or will the system remember them? I ask because whilst on the ground the swashplate now moves in a very exaggerated manner!

I think I have done something the wrong way around??

You will have to go through the DIR setup again. You will also have to turn down the gain pots to 10. o'cloc or she will be hyper!
Align are now advising the fitting of a stand alone BEC as the combination of the DFC head & the new V3.0 software is making the std Align ESC internal BEC "marginal" although it seems to be the hardcore 'smack' fliers who are having 'brown outs' on Spektrum gear.
Your gonna love the new V3.0 I've had my 450fbl since they brought out the 3GX, V1 was a handful, V2 not a lot better but the V3-cant fault it. I've thrown the book at my heli & only managed to get a blow out on the tail once while giving it a real spanking (read trying to provoke a response)

Yeah, I agree with Adrian. Go through all the DIR setup again. I put 12 flights on my 600 with the new software today. Massive difference. Very stable and fast forward flight was perfect. Good luck!

Yes, do the whole DIR setup again and don't forget the Governor setup even if you don't have it.
Instructions say you must go through that setup as well.

First time I have ever seen my sons TRex 250 fly so well instead of like a demented flying squirrel.
It looped, rolled and flipped like a 450, stable piro's, very impressed with V3 so far.
Going to do my 500 pro this week.

          Hey.

As has already been said you will need to go through DIR and tail gyro settings again to be sure they are correct. I have seen them stay the same after a firmware update, but for the 10 minutes it takes its not worth the risk.

Aligns recent announcement about making sure your BEC is powerful enough is because the new software now works the servos harder than the previous one, flybarless in general increases servo loads, but the DFC head hasn't made it any worse than on V2.1, it is just the software.

Again as mentioned go through the governor throttle calibration once more and perform a rebind to program your failsafe to the new model settings.
Also I'd look at an external BEC if you're not already running one, Aligns own 6amp unit should work well on a Trex 500.

              Hey buddy.

No, Align themselves haven't issued an official statement but it's come through one of their team pills Dino Spadecci. It's also only on Helifreak to my knowledge, which isn't great if the masses need to know but word is spreading like wildfire.

I've seen it and queried on specs and test procedures which so far has been unanswered ... I got 3.0 on my 500 which is an upgraded 500e now dfc and can't see any issues with it ...

speaking the business side of things, I strongly doubt that they will issue an update that invalidates most current combos they sell ... we'll see ...

I strongly recommend once you've gone through dir mode & back into flight mode to then check cyclic degrees the v3 i found on the 3 heli's ive done so far have been causing swash plate binding & measuring cyclic it seems v3 is giving you at least 13 degrees which is way way to much in flight mode which i think is reason for brown outs like mentioned with the big 3D boys.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

                    Dear All,
Many thanks for confirming my thoughts on the matter. This was my first ever post on this forum. I am very impressed with all the friendly and helpful advice. I will now have to sit down with the manual and computer software interface and get on with it!

Check out the "Freddy Can Fly" vids on youtube. He's got three where he goes through the 3GX setup (albeit on an earlier version). Helped me massively when I did mine.
