  • Align 3GX V3.0

Installed the new version a couple of days ago. Weather today really good, bright blue sky & zero wind but -2C.
1st flight was more of a shakedown. 2nd batt I tried the butt clencher-high speed rolls. FFF (totally flat out for the 1st time ever without a hint of porpoising) then into 3 rolls-perfect! Batt 3 was trying fast flight backwards with hard flips which caused the tail to kick right around. Went into TX & dialled in (after a couple of more flights) 7% more gain on the tail (now at 25% on Futaba)
Heli BTW is Trex450V2 fbl fitted with DFC head running a 14T pinion, running pretty std curves & values on a Futaba 10CG tx & batts are 35-70C.
After flying this heli for a year now, its been the 1st time I've been really able to fly it without my butt cheeks firmly clenched & staying at least two crashes high.
Aligns reputation may yet be salvaged & I can see an upsurge in demand for these controllers in the very near future. Buy now while they are going cheap
BTW my 1st post on this site, so HI to all.
    Ade.

    Hello Ade.

    Welcome to the site.

    I'm glad to hear you are liking V3 and your 450, from reports it is very good and Align have been listening. However, for your models safety it may be worth me pointing you in this direction;

    http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/align-...ain-issue.html

It seems that some are experiencing power problems on the smaller 500 class and under models running the stock Align ESC BEC, I am guessing your model has the stock Align ESC?
As yours is flying well it's difficult to say if you should be looking at the reports or not, but it's worth knowing about just in case.

Hi Ade, welcome to the site and thank you so much for reporting on your actual experience with a 450 Pro with stock setup using V3.0. Like Coolice says, some are concerned about power issues on the stock ESC BEC but I still haven't seen any concrete evidence against, actually posts like yours confirm the contrary. I, like you will be trying out V3.0 on my new 450Pro soon but as Coolice correctly points out, I will be keeping an eye on reports but not stressing too much as the positive reports are outdoing the negative ones
Just out of interest did you dial down the Gain Pots to 10.O'Clock position or are you using the default 12. O'Clock positions?

Gain pots were already dialled down to-aileron 10.0'clock & elevator 11 as per my previous 2.1 set-up I find this amount of gain is enough for the way I fly. Which is mainly acrobatics with a bit of 3D. The only problem I had was from tail in from about 100ft high back at full speed down to about 10ft off the deck-then I flipped her over inverted & the tail gave out. So it was a serious test of the 3GX's ability, even though the tail gave out I thought it had done well.
I've read of the issues that some are having with Align BEC's not being able to provide enough power. But the 450 should be OK, if it were my 550 on 3GX I'd be thinking of adding a BEC for safetys sake (belt & braces)
As things stand my 550 is looking rather tame compared to the 450 now, maybe its time to think about some tweaks for it (Align 550 fbl V1 bog std apart from V-bar V4.0 black series) But theres plenty of cold dark nights ahead to sort that one out.

The original advisory on HeliFreak was from an Align Factory pilot, so I think there's clearly evidence of an issue. This isn't some attempt to blacken the image of 3GX - it's an issue that can affect customers. It's absolutely right to make sure everyone's aware of it. Personally, I will probably look at a separate BEC for my 500EFL - it's what will make me comfortable with moving to the v3.0 software.

From what ive been ready i think it relates to those who have converted to fbl & not updated there Align esc's with the exception of the 250's esc which never got upgraded.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

As far as I can tell, it relates to anything that uses the stock Align ESC, which has a pretty low power output from the inbuilt BEC (3amp I think). That includes the flybarless super combo kits (eg. like my 500EFL Pro!). So not just conversions ... That was why I was pretty frustrated with this, as from all accounts, v3 is worth the upgrade!

I've also just upgraded to the V3 software, and it is so much better than before, the tail is locked in like never before, up until now it always had a slight wag on it.

I can't fault it at all now.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
