  • how many channels needed fbl, beastx trex500

my fb trex 500 currently has a nar6200 with sat (dsm2).
if i do the fbl conversion with beastx how many channels do i need on the rx? do i need more? will i need an ar7000 or 8000rx

currently its bound to an older dx6i (dsm2), but it will go onto the dx8 when I convert, which is dsmx. is it best to upgrade the receiver and sat to dsmx also.
    thanks folks

    trex 550 (HC3SX)

    trex 600 nitro le (beastx)
    compass 6HV (Spirit)
    dx8.....

its not my dog by the way.

Why not use an AR7200BX plus a sat!

I allready have a spare beastx unit sat on the shelf
just wasn't sure if i needed any more rx channels and was being offered a new rx
but your right, it would be the best option if i were starting from scratch

OK I see, if it were a 450 you could use the beast + a sat no need for a receiver, but I would not on a 500. I think you can use a six channel as it is electric but you would need seven if it were a nitro, one for the governor.

Hmmm I dint say you need more channels. I said that's what I got kicking about after moving to Futaba!

Anyway you need more channels mate........ that 500 will last you few months before you will have to spend more money on hearing aids to hear it and bottle neck glasses to see it!!! Then will be another, bigger and noisier nitro.....therefore more channels,I am only trying to future proof you!

I guess I should know better

"if you fbl the 500 you will need more channels" is what you said to me....... now what your saying it meant is.... I will need more channels if I fbl the 500 and buy another nitro!!!

it must be early onset dimensia then as I cant remember anything i learnt at the beginning!

I have missed the obvious somewhere along the learning curve for sure, but other than the obvious four channels, which of the following actually uses the two extra channels when you are flying a cp heli with a dx6i...?

gyro gain adjusment/ rate/heading hold switch
                  throttle hold switch
                  idle up switch

If the integrated AR7200BX only needs 6 channels, and works fine with a DX6i, why would a discrete AR6200+BeastX need more? Doesn't make sense in my book!

                          idle up switch
Not both channels are used. Gain uses one channel, but only 5 channels are actually required. All those other functions (eg. idle-up) are just config changes in the TX (ie. change of throttle/pitch curve).

PS. I would move the whole setup to DSMX. From my (limited) understanding, it's significantly better than DSM2.

Just don't drag me into a Spektrum v Futaba argument - I get enough grief as it is from my local lot for having Blade/spektrum kit!
