  • 250 DFC gyro setting for DX8

    Hi Guys,

what should the gyro settings on my DX8 be for T-Rex 250 DFC V2.1
I ve set mine to the Gyro swithc
    Pos 0 25% (Rate Mode)
    Pos 1 -25% (HH)
    Pos2 25% (HH)

when flicking the Gyro switch on the DX8 I was expecting the LED on the 3GX unit to change to confirm the selection.
I just dont see anything happening.

    Any Ideas will be appreciated

Should be green HH red for rate mode but not sure on DX8 setup, is 25% a little low for HH.???
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

      Hey.

You may find the gyro gain has been split into two halves.

      0 ~ 50% is 0 ~ 100% of heading hold gain (or rate mode)
      51 ~ 100% is 0 ~ 100% or rate mode gain (or HH mode)

The easiest thing to do is while the model is on (disconnect two motor wires for safety) is to increase the gyro gain ATV value to see what happens, my guess will be that at 51% you will see the light change.
Then using the 3GX PC link you can go to the settings page (sencond from last tab) and actually see the the gyro gain being used, this value will change/update as you raise or lower the gain value in the transmitter for a visual reference along with the led colour.

Hi Guys, well on the 3GX the light switch from Red to Green at exacltly -4.5 gain. How to explain this?
Also, to hover do I need to be in HH or Rate Mode?

Coolice, where about in the country are you?

          Hey buddy.

Ah, this is showing the switchover point between heading hold and rate mode is roughly 0% on the gyro gain percentage.
I will then say 0~+100 is 0~100% heading hold gain and 0~-100% is 0~100% rate mode gain.
You know the switching point now so I'd set about +60 for your heading hold gain value and -60 for you're rate mode gain as a starting point. From here you can adjust up or down to hit the optimum gain value.

I'm based in Northamptonshire (NN10) if you're thinking of me setting up the model and test flying it thigh my school.

              Hey.

Different makers Tx's deal with the gyro gain control in different ways, actually the main change is seen if you can assign the choosen gyro gain channel to work as a specific gyro gain channel. This then sets it as you are seeing or whether you need to just use the plain old ATV (travel limits) to set differing gyro gain settings.

For hovering ideally you want heading hold mode, especially when you are learning to fly. In reality not many use rate mode anymore except perhaps to setup the servo arm position on the bench during the build, or for scale flying. Some promote the use of rate mode when learning circuit flying, as the tail will follow the nose of the aircraft, but then you're not learning to actually fly the tail properly and so it can work against you I feel.

Ah shame, yes we are a little far away. If you're this way anytime let me know.
