  • Mini Vbar Vs Beast x

    Hi All.

Looking at putting a Goblin together and made a wish list. When you add the wish list of electronics up its gets fairly hefty. More expensive than the kit at the mo. So was thinking of reasonably ways to cut it down. Steeling the Vbar off my 500 and replacing it with a Beast X seems like a fairly easy one. Then I looked at the Mini Vbar and its about the same price.

So whats the main difference between a Mini Vbar and Beast X? What would you get if you had the option?

I love the log feature of the full size Vbar but for the extra cost maybe can do with out.
My 500 has also had a couple of decent crashes with the Vbar. Do they get tweaked with crashes or are they more likely to just work or not work. Seems to still fly ok but was a little worried about putting a crashed Vbar on a new Goblin.

    Cheers

I noticed the UK HK warehouse has a sale on on their 4100watt helidrive motor @$65 - an instant saving there. Heck, at that price consider it a disposable item!

If you want to cut the cost of the Electronics? I have Align 610s and 650 along with a Fusion Hawk 120HV ESC with Life for Rx. But I have the Mini Vbar fitted. My motor is a secondhand (used once on 6s) Scorpion 4035-500kv which I paid 60 Euros for. But I would have gone with the 700/750MX if I didn't have the Scorpion.

          Hi,

I have flown both systems and they both fly very well although I think the V-Bar is marginally better but no where near a game changer however I think it really is important to run 2 sats on anything bigger than a 500 especially with the amount of carbon that is in helicopters these days, plus I think the log is excellent for trackng down problems before they materialise into a crash.
So if it was me I would go for the V-Bar and if possible try and save some cash elsewhere.

I've got two heli's with beastx & will replace hopefully soon, Ive never got on with beastx seems you make one parameter adjustment then end up having do dozen others, can never get it to fly in a likable way imo.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

I've flown both. They are both great, but I'm currently beastX (ar7200bx) only.

AFAIK you'll need a laptop on the field to configure the vbar. The beastx on the other hand is configured via dials and the builtin setup menu, so all you need to bring with you is a copy of the manual (or download the PDF to your phone).

My opinion is that 90% of the people out there (including me) will not notice a big difference between both units (when properly configured) and they will not overgrow either of them for a long time.

                Mini Vbar Vs Beast x

I had all beast x now I have all mini bars !! I got the beasts flying really nice without much tweaking but the vbar just works off the bat and that confidence in the hardware make major roads in ur flying too. For me well worth the extra and the £30 upgrade to pro software is a no brainer ;-)

Are you looking for a governor? If so reactive ESC or proactive FBL gov? I can highly recommend the SK540 if its the latter and not too exp at £200.

So with mini vbar on pro you can still get the spectrum analyzer and Vibration logging and gov. Looks like the only advantage of a full size vbar is For nitro, scale or 4 swash servos. None of which I have or intend to have. No brainer if that is the case mini vbar with pro upgrade.
Kinda makes sense to me to stick with the same fbl units on all helis. When I upgraded to the vbar on the 500 I loved it and my confidence had a major boost after some problems. So if a mini will do everything a full size vbar will at only a fraction more than a beast x then easy decision.

                      Cheers.

You don't really need the laptop with you at the field when using vBars now either. There's a vStabi android (and I assume iOS) app for use with bluetooth on a smartphone/tablet. Can get the bluetooth units on ebay or from coolice on these forums.

You can also program the Vbar with a Control Box at the field. Not used mine yet though.

Imo, the minor inconvenience of using a laptop a couple of times to get it set right is well worth it for the superior feel and performance of the unit. It would not influence my decision with regards to buying a Vbar. But i can see how the price would for some people. In which case the Beast units are great. The ar7200bx especially. Neat, tidy and performs really well. Imo it is not in the same league as the Vbar, but it is half the price so that is understandable. I would say that if flying for you is a casual hobby and your not out every chance you get, or waking up with the first thoughts of whats the weather and wind like today.... you would be fine with a Beast. If your obsessed.... get a Vbar and feed your obsession

Currently flying both and find that the piro optimisation in the V Bar is better and the tail feels better on the stick, IE a more linear response and feel but I'm afraid boys and girls thats about it for me. I had the AR7200Bx on the 700 and it felt really good including the tail, the V bar again feels much the same and the tail holds better in high collective but I would struggle to pay the extra as I can't find a reason for the extra
