Well on the strength of that weird Funcopter thing and its poopy performance with high cost I'd not rate Multiplex very highly at all. In fact looking at most of their kit , it all seems over priced compared to similar stuff on the market.

Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !

mCPX, better than a Phoenix anyday.

Brains and thumbs work okay, but not at the same time.

I used to use what was at the time, their flagship radio - the Profi 4040 from memory. It was the most versatile transmitter you could possibly ask for. But it required a completely new way of thinking when it came to setting up a model.

With all your regular sets like Futaba, Spektrum, Sanwa etc, the basic models are built in, so you set it to a heli with the right type of swash plate, switch it all on, move the sticks and the servos all move. Maybe not in the right direction, but they will move. All the CCPM mixing is done for you etc.

With the Multiplex, there was no base models. When you switched it all on and twiddled the sticks, nothing moved.

The Multiplex started from ground zero and worked upwards, meaning you had to fully programme every single part of the control system. The beauty of it was that the system was infinitely versatile with no restrictions placed on the user by pre-programmed mixes etc. I flew planes and helis with the Multiplex, and once I'd got the hang of it, actually successfully setup a CCPM heli from scratch which worked a treat.

Was quite a few years ago now.

Typical German engineering. Built to last. Their servos are great as well.

Sold it and moved onto a more regular set for an easier life in the end.

I use the Multiplex CockpitMultiplex COCKPIT Classic SX M-LINK Set 2.4GHz with Rx-7-DR M-Link Receiver (25131 ) Ref: MP1205 . Very good. Includes telemetry and a quality reliable product. Very common on the glider side. Other people do use it and it has been mentioned on here. I'd ignore the funcopter though. Other Multiplex models have become standards.

Give Stan Yeo a ring on Phoenix Model Products. He knows what he's doing and his prices are good.

I use a Royal Pro 16 for all of my flying, (Helis, Planks and Gliders) they're not as expensive as made out to be. Okay they're not spektrum cheap, but the quality of the signal and the functions and features that are in the radios are the same and more than almost all of the top end radios that are almost double the price.
Both the royal series and cockpit sx radios have basic model formats from which you can setup any model. Helis are covered inc different swash types etc.

If nothing else multiplex's very strong reputation is based on its excellent radio link and very low failure rate especially (as in gliding) where great distances between model and pilot are achieved without concern. As already stated typical first class german engineering. Their ongoing support for its products is also second to none.

They do have a completely different way of doing things from Futaba, JR etc but its not difficult to learn and is relatively straight forward. There are a few things like setting up a governor which are slightly different, but there are good help guides available.

This seems a bit of a bias view, but I will not trust my expensive models (gliders and helis) to any other brand. Just my opinion.

I use a royal pro 9 for all my flying also. All on 35 with IPD's in everything. Radio link is so strong I don't consider 2.4 neccesary

                  Re: Multiplex for Helicopters

I used a royal evo 9 for all my planks and fpv, and it was a quality piece of gear. My favourite radio of all time was my multiplex cockpit mm.

Thank you all for your feedback on this I really appreciate it. It is what makes this a really great forum. Chip the bias does not matter because your comments are really useful when matched to others etc.
i have a much better idea now of what my options are. I am in no great rush just enjoying looking and trying out all the different sets. But one common point I have picked up is that when spending a lot of hard earned on a heli it is important to have a radio that gives you confidence!
                    Thanks again everyone who responded.
