  • 700e DFC build

Hi guys, I've just got myself a shiny new 700E DFC to build. It's the one with the normal servos as opposed to the HV kit.
Also have an AR7200BX and Griffon Quasar GSR 7075. All new to me, so just wondering if there's any advice or things I should know before I start the build. Any hints, tips, do's or dont's gratefully received.

Hi only little niggle , when mounting the front gearbox with the umbrella gears in the frame, bolt it up on the 2 rear holes an then u will see the front 4 are very slightly out an need a small file just so they go in nice an straight then you get a good mesh against the auto gear other than that it's mint!

I heard something about the swash links fouling the swash with beastx. Or is that on older kits

          Hey.

As posted by Jim I found the boom block frame mounting holes were misaligned once assembled and allows the vertail tail drive shaft to develope up & down play, which in flight due to the slant cut gears means this shaft hammers up & down with varying loads on the tail rotor.

          http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/t-rex-...use-found.html

The swashplate, I have made a post on my observations on the bench at extreme travel where by teh new stronger FBL links hit the swashplate. I don't think it's a problem in flight, however as I could see it pressing against the back of the links on full elevator/aileron deflection, I chose to dremmel scallops above the control balls to allow clearance on the plastic link.
There are pictures posted of what I did, if I find them I'll add the link here.

          Got it, first post on this topic;

I found the same thing as Ian above with the swash and the links so did the same with mine and got the Dremmel out which looks fine afterwards and takes that worry out.

I Had to modify my swashplate too to get the required clearance.

                  700e DFC build

Thanks for the heads up guys, particularly Coolice for the links
I will make sure there is no hole misalignment on the front gearbox (fix it if there is)
I wonder if all these issues are still there as its a new kit Align may have sorted it! I won't hold my breath though.

Hey scuba hows it going mate. Yeah I'm still about, don't get in the forums so much these days but still flying and enjoying the helis!

                    Hi guys

Phil & Ian (Coolice) from Milton Keynes heli club kindly looked over our 700DFC and listened for signs of the vibration as reported by many (we are new to Heli's so have no idea what is a normal vibration and what is wrong).

                    The sugestions were:

Check on the washers that secure the tail blade holder. They are very thin and dish over time. Both of Alex's washers had dished in only 7 flights and were replaced with slightly thicker/stronger versions.

Change the carbon look tail tube with the plain black version.

Change the tail blades for alternate (Rail) blades

Finally check the alignment of the boom block frame mounting holes, as sugested by Coolice on an earlier post.

We have been doing the changes to Alex's 700, and have been driven crazy with the modification to the side frames. We found that there were two holes on one side and one on the other that were slightly out and if slackened off took all the play out of the vertical gear shaft. The problem is one side is perfect, but the other side with the holes modified causes the play (Approx 0.25mm) to comes back.

As the bolts get tightened I can feel the stress going into the boom block caseing leaving the play in the vertical gear.

I have no idea if the play that is there is too much and a problem, or something to keep an eye on.

Dino Spaccini from Align HQ has said on Freak that there is a solution to the humming tail suffered by some models and is possibly due to be officially announced this coming week.

some info as you may or may not know Jamie Robertson is now part of our factory team and is there right now test the tail setup i also sent the thread on the cupping of the washers over to Align to have them look at this also, So there are many things going on over at Align he has been testing for 3 days on a bunch of things so there is alot of things happening but the most important to me and align is the tail hum dont hang me just yet more info coming thanks Dino

I posted this in the other 3 threads on the tail hum, I got ahead of myself on the tail hum the gears are new but not part of the fix i received an email this morning letting me know that they are working on that fix for the hum i will not comment on what there doing but i have a good idea that everyone will be happy with the fix. Align never wants any of its end-users to feel there not doing the right thing as in the past Align has always meet the needs of the fliers and has made the fixes that need to be made. I am sorry for jumping the gun on the video but the fix is coming and i will update everyone as soon as i can Dino.

                        Hey.

Ah, so that's where Robertson has gone :-) read he'd left Mikado, their lose is Aligns gain I think and I'm sure we'll start to see some Align machines high up the rankings in international competitions again soon.

The new tail gears seems to address a possible problem with gears failing, so far I have seen 2 reports of them one very local and looked to be a badly moulded gear.
I wonder if they are releasing lighter tail blades? This was one of the last things I'd read being tried by a forum member of HF, I mentioned this to Phil who then tried Rails on his own machine and reported it did help.

In any case all you chippies out there who need a new circular saw, a 700 tail rotor looks to make a good wood cutter ;-) lol

I will chat to Robbe and see if I can find anything out.

                          700e DFC build

The humming tail and tail shaft failure issue is a real nightmare to be honest. I've been umming and arring over the "should I shell out £1200 hard earned £'s on a 700 Heli" so I finally go for it only to find that if I do fly it, it may not get past the first flight in one piece!!
I have only just made a start on the build but now I'm in no rush. I have been following it on the freak and Dino seems pretty sure the fix is imminent. hopefully it will be resolved soon.
