SO.... my mate bought a AXN Floater-Jet and maidened it this weekend, wind was low and he managed to trim it fairly well.... even had to tape a stone to the nose to sort out the COG!!
We decided it was time I have a go and since I’ve only been flying small helis since the start of the year we would also maiden his new buddy cable. Since this was a moment of a heli enthusiast moving over to the dark side he also whipped out his key ring camera and taped it to the plane.
Cutting a long story short I got a bit close to the biggest tree in the park and the resulting panic and confusion between who has control ended in a moment of silence. The plane was seriously stuck in the upper most branches of the tallest tree for miles. Not only was it the tallest tree it was also the smoothest bark I’ve ever seen (almost as if the tree was painted with non climb paint). For the next 5 hours we tried everything we could to get it down resulting in a tree that has more string and rocks hanging from it than a Christmas tree (well it is November).
Defeated we decided to come back in the morning to see if mother nature would have released it from her clutches but alas she did not…. I mean imagine the footage of the plane going into the tree and then filming two idiots trying everything they could to get it out. Well it had been raining all night and was still raining so we gave up and called it a loss and a learning experience…. Fast forward to the afternoon and the curiosity got the better of us to go check on it one last time as the rain had stopped.
The change in wind had loosened the wings and the fuselage had fallen to the ground, a quick scout around and I found what I was looking for. Much excitement until I picked it up and noticed the teeth marks all over it! Bl00dy dogs! Well at least we had recovered the electronics and even more importantly THE CAMERA…… (more on this later)!
So your advise please. Rain soaked everything… the lipo is binned (obviously) but what are your thoughts on the ESC, Spektrum receiver, servos and the Motor.
From what we can tell the motor feels like sand in it. Will oil help or is it toast?
The ESC and servos look ok but do we just power them up with a new lipo to test them?
The receiver looks fine but if its toast anyone have any experience with the HK orange RX’s they are $6 compared to £46 for a genuine Spektrum RX.
Oh the camera which was probably the only reason we spent so long trying to get the plane down turned out to have only a couple minutes footage on it. Maybe 30 seconds short of hitting the tree. We think it might have stopped due to the cold as was only a few degrees outside at the time, anyone have experience with this as we know it was not the camera battery or the memory card. What a pity as it would have been funny to watch it all back!
