  • What tx to go for

    Hi all

Im looking to upgrade my transmitter and I'm unsure what to go for is it possible to get a good one for about £150?

it would be used in a trex 450 and on a flight sim as I'm a novise flyer. I am currently using a radiolink that came with my 450 clone. I was looking at a spektrum dx7s has anyone used these and got any reviews.

    Regards

    Hi Keith,

I have got a DX8 and am very happy with it, buying it new will be slightly out of your budget but you could pick one up second hand for £150 im sure.

both are good and will see you through the hobby anyway

I had DX7 when they first came out & was very pleased with it but going for something little more costly will pay off in long run, I went for the JR DSX9 & not just the quality difference but also flight response.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

I have a rather cheap DX6i, good radio for the money but it has its limits, I'd go for a dx8 next..
If it is a spektrum radio get a DSMX (newest) radio.

Have a DX 7s, and it compares favourably with the 8 less the odd whistle. Build quality is NOT as bad as some say, opening up the back and doing the odd stick tension adjustments has given me a good look at it's very professional assembly internally and the out side's non too shabby either, at least it does not resemble a toy like some much more expensive kit. Stick gimbals are a great improvement on the DX6i ones too. Worth a punt I'd say.
              Trex 450 SEV2.
Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !
              Trex 550 V2. Adrenalin ( brown kind )
mCPX, better than a Phoenix anyday.
              Several planks, gathering dust.

Brains and thumbs work okay, but not at the same time.

                      cracking choice

I too am still very much a novice with a 450 ,and with some pointers went for the dx7s.. and yes its very much like a dx8 but just minus a few switches ...very usable tx ..infact best tx ive ever owned thats for sure !

some shops are also selling it with pheonix sim in the box as thats how i got mine ! :P

Before you go for the S do you use a sim at all as I believe im correct in that the DX7S doesn't have the buddy port. however if you do you can still use it by getting hold of a Simstick then you can sim witlessly. Just letting you know the options.
                        All the best

Not correct, it is the old DX7SE you are thinking about, the current DX7S does have the trainer port.

I've got an old DX7 which is good. It was built to a higher standard than the DX6i and DX8, rumoured to have been made by JR. I'm not sure about the quality of the current DX7. I moved over to Multiplex for helis and find them better. I wouldn't stay with Spektrum, I'd go for Futaba or JR or Hitec. Spektrum is fine for the smaller stuff (MSR size) but quality control seems a bit hit and miss. As far as I can see, some people get a good one and stay with Spektrum, the others move mainly to Futaba.
