  • Compass 7HV hopped up tail

Just thought share a few pics of the HV Ultimate I have just finished. Decided to graft on a E7 tail as I just can't help but tinker. Just got to drop in the motor then go flying. Have to say its a very well thought out model and easy to work with layout. The manual and bolt packs were a little disappointing with many screws not matching up and lots extra. Also one side was loctited and the other wasn't. I'd prefer just a kit save work pulling it apart. All that aside though pretty pleased and the tail looks great. It had the latest Ultimate tail setup which made adding on the E7 relativley straightforwards as its a 6mm shaft, very precise how I have it with minimal if any slop

Managed a few setup flights today. Well I say setup actually didn't do anything within 30 secs started flying my normal stuff :-) 1600rpm slight skid wobble but flew around nice slow precise aero's/3d, 1900rpm quickened up but still a little laboured on the sticks. I'm thinking 2-2100 should se it poppy. Its come in at 11lbs rtf which is about half a pound more than I'm used too. Having said that is a really solid machine and that can be felt in the air very confidence inspiring and the tail authority is top notch. I was surprised how precisely it flew. Not sure what I was expecting but always steered away from a DFC type setup. Time will tell as early days but seemed pretty good.

You'll see in the 3rd pic you can just about squeeze the vbar sensor on the servo mounting block. This puts it close to centre of rotation and frees up some space on the radio tray at rear to place your electronics.

E7 tail is superb. On a few test hovers with the Compass I had a slow wag (think a thrust was bad) but the E7 is totally locked with no wag at all.

Here are a few more pics:

Nice Michael, would have thought the sensor would pick up vibrations mounted there. What skids are you using?

Doesn't seem to have any detrimental effects mounting it there. I will pull the vib file later but in flight not even a twitch. The skids are after market Trex 700, had too elongate the holes for the HV and Rave Ballistic tubes, all cobbled together from parts in my garage :-) just thought white didn't look right.

From what I understand, the Silverline can withstand substantial vibrations before it has any effect on performance.

Just pulled the flight log. In 6 mins good health message with 1 raised vibration event. That tells me 2 things the machine is pretty vibration free and sensor position is acceptable.

Great work Michael! Looks very sleek with that canopy. Question is..are you keeping it or will we see it pop up for sale?

                  Also, are you 14s ?

Andy, i have 2 old tails complete here?

Hi Heathy, its 12s right now but literally just measured it up for 14s which is looking good. I can remove the rx 2s pack and draw off a 2s flight pack so weight difference wouldn't be a lot more. As you know I like to build and get them flying right then if a decent offer comes in I'll always post it, not looking to advertise it just yet but someone could be opportunistic ;-)

fair enough, Snaakkeey on here used the black logo 600 skids and they look great also.

What lipos are you running? If you want it lighter I can recommend 4200mah. You can also loose the lower bearing block to no detrimental effect and the compass blades are great but quite heavy. Cupracing was showing me his 7hv running at 2300rpm and for his style of 3d he thought it was an improvment over 2000rpm!

                          Nice chopper!

I ran 12s 4000 gens ace this morning. Just hooked it up at 14s 2100 and its come alive. It's an animal, 2300rpm must be bordering insane :-)) May go 3300 14s later on but for now stick to the 4000 setup.

So, to get round the expense of buying new 7S packs you're just using similiar capacity 2S packs in series??
