  • My 250 DFC Pics

Just some photos of my build. Not a lot to see as it doesn't really look any different to anyone else's apart from the canopy (I liked my 450 one enough to buy one for the 250). For some strange reason the canopy always looks a lot more pink on camera than it really is. It's really very much more of a fluorescent red.

Still need to tidy the wiring up once I'm sure on the final position but otherwise done...

    And altogether now...

Ah, yes, maybe although the monitor's 4.5 years old now, when it was new it was really garish and (i guess the word is) over saturated. It took a very long time before it settled down and / or I grew to ignore / like the picture!

This was one of the new kits that come as DFC so I've no experience of the flybar'd ones. I've heard they can be a bit of a handful though. This is a dream. I've gone from circuits and lazy 8's with the MCPx but nothing more than a nervous hover of the 450 to lazy 8's on my first proper flight with this (ignoring the three test hovers to get the 3gx settings right). It really is a big confidence boost

looking good. I like the canopy.

I'd be tempted to turn the sat rx 90 degrees to eliminate any shadowing in right hand circuits though.unless you have one on the other side as well...

if you turn it so it sticks below the frame the signal should be more reliable.
I'm not sure if it is a problem when you are as close as you fly a 250 though...

I think you're right Steve - there is another sat on the other side which is 90 degrees to the one you can see but I don't have one going across the body and as you say, I probably should. It would make it neater too I think.

It may also explain the range issues I'm seeing. I was going to phone HH this morning as I don't seem to be able to get anything more than about 12M in range test out of my DX8 on DSM2, but actually, it may just be the sat placement. I was getting suspicious as initially I thought it was the orange sats (at 10m max range test) but now I've bought genuine DSMX sats and was still only getting 12m I figured there may be an issue with my radio. There still may be but I guess I should try re-positioning that sat first and see if it helps.

So cheers for pointing that out

if you have one on the other side then I doubt that is the problem. I am not the best person to speak to though as I fly futaba after having a couple of crashes where the DX8 stopped talking to the heli.

I think DSMx simply has a more robust channel hopping regime and has exactly the same power and range as DSM, but like I said I'm not experienced on Spektrum.

just dangling the leads so they are clear from the helicopter and doing a range check will prove if it is the carbon causing it I suppose.

I had the 250 dfc 3gx since it first came out & absolutely love it.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Well, been blowing an absolute gale down here most of the weekend, today in particular. I did however go up the flying field with the 250 to have a look at the range issue. Basically, if I move one of the sats so it sits horizontally across the top of the boom mount area so the two antenna are sticking out at 90 degrees to the frame, and also move the side mounted sat down a bit so that the antennae are below the frame all my range issues are gone. All i've got to do now is work out how to make them stay there. The one on the side will be no problem but I really don't know about the one up the top.

We were thinking about featuring one on 3flite.moonfruit.co.uk , Would you all think this would be a quality heli to review, ( that is the dfc pro)??

Never built a heli from scratch before, only stripped and repaired ready built ones, so I imagine it will be event full.

Looks lovely. I really want a 250, saw one for the first time last weekend and kind of fell in love with how cute and miniature they are. It is a proper heli just tiny, jealous of yours.
