OK, I guess the ESC has a BEC. That means power for the RX comes via the ESC and not a separate pack.
I bought a dx6i initially, it is the entry level TX for what you need. After 3 months I decided I wanted a better TX and got the DX8 which I'm very happy with.
If you are just testing the water with the hobby then it may be a good idea to get a used dx6i, you will always get back near what you paid for a good used one.
If money is not so much of an issue then go straight for the DX8, what concerns me more though is......have you flown anything before?
If not, I highly recommend a simulator such as phoenix and some training gear for the heli.
Also, do you know the source of the heli?
Did you see it flying before buying?
Do you have someone to teach you some basics etc?
Are you aware of the damage a 450 size heli can do? It needs a lot of respect.
Not trying to scare you, just want you to get it right
Just a trusty rusty Raptor E550 these days

Thanks for the info. This is my first kit 6ch heli I have been flying 3 and 4ch RTF helis for two years. I'm also a helicopter pilot and aircraft mechanic, so I understand the basics of flight. I'm hoping the thing will fly it looks like it is in good shape, but if I have to do upgrades and repairs thats ok, sounds kinda fun. For now I need to get the radio set to see what it will do.
Thanks again
