  • Atom 500 build questions

    Guys,
the heli arrived from rc711 yesterday and ive put it together today, just a few questions please...

    1. Do I need to take it to bits to thread lock everything as I checked and most bolts were thread locked ?

    2. The holes for the canopy are pre drilled but the grommets just don't want to go in, do I need to drill or do they require a lot of manipulation to get them in ?

    3. The canopy mount that fixes to the bottom of the canopy doesn't look big enough for the holes already drilled. Is anyone just glueing it instead of using the self tappers ?

    4. I've noticed the main gear the motor is tight to turn but I've moved the motor out but it's still tight on the meshing, will it ease when the heli is used ? When I turn the blades the opposite way on the auto rotation it's very smooth.

    5. The fbl arm connector bolts seem really short when I attach them to the blade grip arms is this normal ?

    6. The seems to be loads of spare washers and rubber o rings, have I missed something ????

Ive been flying a while and as I said before I've only ever flown align and the build is basically spoon fed so this is all new to me !

Shopping tomorrow at the nationals so hopefully I will be able to buy the electrics to get it up in the air soon :-)

As ever I appreciate your replies...

Hi, I haven't got a Atom 500, but I do have a 7HV. Assuming the kit is delivered in a similar form I can confirm that with the 7HV you only have to threadlock specifically where the manual requires it. All pre-assembled bits were factory thread locked to a more than acceptable standard, except where specifically detailed in the manual As requiring attention.

Canopy mount rubbers were also tight on the 7HV. Have you tried a little light oil to ease them on?

On the 7HV I had to be careful the motor pinion wasn't tight against the top of the motor as this made it tight to turn - not sure if the same is applicable with yours.

Steve at Weston UK is one of the main suppliers in the UK for Atoms: he is very friendly and knowledgable and offers super fast service at great prices - it may be worth having a chat with him.

Hope this is of some help.

      Cheers
