  • Optipower warranty does what it says

Hi all I just like to say a big Thanks to Andy and Lee at optipower for sorting out 10 x 6s 5000 batts that had started to puff. I sent the batts back for inspection and recieved new packs back Today fantastic service, I made them aware of the puffing within the 6 month warranty period then returned them later. I really expected a load of the usual excuses misuse, charger problem, over discharged etc, so was pleasently surprised to have the packs swapped with no hassle. The faulty packs still gave good power and had low IR readings but puffed up after use then remained puffy. They think they must have been from a bad batch as the return rate on the batts is 0.03 % of all cells delivered. The chemistry has now been changed in the later packs to run cooler and have a lower IR so more power. This has given me the confidence to purchase from them again and a few of my fellow flyers will now be using optipower batts. So a big thanks to Optipower who have a warranty thats does what it says .

Hi the packs had beed used briefly on my 550 before i sold it, 6s align motor castle 75A ESC. They then got used on the 700,s both have align motors and castle 120 esc,s running 12S I noticed them slightly puffing then going back hard at about 20 flights then they started staying soft after about 30 flights. I contacted opti at this point as they were approx 5 months old and was advised to keep a check on the IR readings, The power was still good and the IR readings did not rise that much. Approx 10 flights later they really started to puff up in a hard flight and stayed puffed when cold at that point they went back.

Is it just me or is the number of packs replaced by Optipower worth it in the long run. It must be costing them a small fortune to replace everyones packs. Good after sales service and honouring the waranty aside how long can they do this. Say your new packs puff after the same amount of time, unless their unit cost is so low that they can afford to do this they will have to replace the next 10, and then again and again.

Unless the first packs were sub standard in manufacturing and they have corrected this from now on so aren't expecting the amount of claims they are currently getting. Or is just the fact that they sell so many that this is a drop in the ocean?

Not many people will use them enough to make them puff. 0.03% is not much. The worst period will be through the Winter or perhaps the best if less people fly. Judging by the numbers who turn up at clubs there will be a lot of people who buy and hardly ever use. It is a good deal for keen flyers. I doubt if the replacements have a 6 month guarantee.

The OEM covers it i think as per Outrage cells and Maxpoly etc,all from the same factory.

I thought when they (dealers in general) set the price of any goods the cost of warranty returns is factored in.

This is to allow for a certain percentage of returns giving nil or little cost to them.
