  • My new G4! :)

Hi guys, I finally got my Raptor going yesterday at the funfly at SRCMC. A big thanks to the guys there for helping me out with my engine trouble (bloody fan nut deffo requires a lot of red loctite as it was somehow working it's self off!)

Flying wise it is still very rich, even still I am getting 9 mins of sports flying . Autorotations are just amazing with the torque tube tail drive and 710 Revolution blades, it'll hang forever! Runs great. A bit of grass cutting which is a right laugh when you can hardly see the heli and the ground because it's covered in smoke! Grass stains wipe right off the main blades, lovely!

I must admit it's very different to the Logo so I am still fine tuning settings to get a quicker response that I'm used to, going back to the Logo I did feel a lot more at home haha... 4 tanks though it, hoping to do some more today and the rest of this week before the weekend!

Flybarless system: Mikado V-Bar Full Size Silverline
    Engine: O.S 105HZ-R and O.S PowerBoost 105
Main blades: Revolution 710mm Flybarless blades
    Tail blades: Thunder Tiger Carbon
    Fuel:OPTIFUEL OPTIMIX 20% SLV
Battery: OPTIPOWER 3650 2S RX Pack
Tail servo: Spektrum H6080G Gyro Servo
Cyclic servos: Spektrum H6040 Digital High Speed Heli Servo
    Running on Spektrum DSMX 11ms

Right, off for a fly and to get some better photos!

    Cheers

It was good to have you down at out patch Laurence. It is just a pity you were running the engine in - all that high tail-in hover stuff was a bit dull....maybe next time you come down you can spank it a little...maybe even get it nose-in or inverted.

Come down any time, you are always welcome.

Very nice! Looks like a good machine. I wasn't convinced at first, but Raptor seem to have pulled it back with these new helis.

Omg... I've finally realised why people like Paddle sim on V-Bar, it's very model independent, stuck 10 on and much more to my liking, like the Logo without any... I will play around with more. Done a few inverted autos today, deffo better than the Logo, can stick a lot of piros in them .

I got some better pics too so just going to upload and edit them then I will edit my first post.

I run a minimum of 40 paddle sim on my Rave usually around 45
I also run precomp on the pitch and cyclics .

Welcome to the world of 10 min plus flights :-)

How much do you run on your Logo if any? I hated the Logo with it on...

Yeah, getting 9 mins with it pretty rich .

I did not like the Vbar without paddle sim, felt to over controlled, i currently run 35 paddle sim and 100 agility

                          Youre welcome down anytime Laurence!

Although I must admit I prefer the G4's flying characteristics when they have the clutch installed, without it they seem to over rev & are rather down on power!

So the only question now is, is how long til Swale buys one?

                          I reckon before next weekend!

I have never had to resort to red loctite for a fan hub nut. What is requird though is patience. After cleaning the crank shaft and nut to ensure there is no oil on them and after installing the nut loctite takes several hours to reach its full strength. So either you didn't clean the parts or you didn't allow enough time for the loctite to reach its full strength, about 6 hours at room temperature.

Out in the field loctite 243 might be better as it is proven to tolerate slight contaminations of oil (whatever the definition of slight may mean) and also cures faster down from 6 hours to about 2 hours.

Edit: The other thing I just thought of is the hub nut dished slightly. If it is then try putting it on that gives the greatest surface area contact.

                              Sounds nice Laurence.

If you are ever at the FMHC then it would be interesting to compare our two helis side-by-side in the hover to hear the difference between the OS & YS.
