  • Hex Head Size

    Hi,
I have just recieved my new main gear and shaft.I started to put it in the heli and I have noticed that the hex screw to go in the shaft is a different head size to the old one and I don't seem to have the correct size.
Could someone please tell me what I need to order.
    Thanks

On my old 250 it used a lot of 1.3mm hex bits. Not sure about yours though if it's the new one.

      1.27mm or 1.3mm

MIP do a good one that works very well on the 250.

I have the V1 250 but the new shaft and gear are from the pro but fit.
I thought my MIP was 1.3 but it must be 1.0.
        More money to spend then

Yes the original 250 was fitted with 0.9mm hex screws. The last batch of them came with the 1.3mm screws same as the SE.

MIP do a 1.3mm and 1.27mm hex driver, get the 1.27mm as it is the correct size.

The new Hardware kits have the new 1.3m hex screws. As stated the original 250s have a .9

The 1.3m is uch better from what I hear. I have a new kit, not fitted these little buggers yet though!

Thought I'd revive this to see if anyone can help, I'm now the proud owner of a converted 250 DFC, which is nice. However I need to do a bit of maintenance and I seem to have a few bolts that are different sizes to the 2 supplied allen/hex keys. I have what I assume is a .9mm and a 1.3mm Align hex, and 1.5mm and 2mm hex from my 450. The bolt heads are bigger than 1.3 and smaller than 1.5mm. I'm no engineer but I reckon they are 1.4mm, however 1.4mm hex keys seem near impossible to find (hour trawling bing n google)!!! The bolts are holding the motor mount and the one in the main shaft. Any ideas?? Cheers Steve

Is the motor an Align unit?

Hi PKNEC, yes the motor is an Align, the bolts are in the motor mount through the frame, I'm more concerned atm that I can't get the main gear off as I need to replace that and the tail gear.

If the head of the screw has been overtightened then the hex will have been rounded a bit causing this in between size.
Not sure on the room you have around the motor but you could try some thin long nose pliers or failing that a long route would be to take the side frame off so you can get at the motor mount and screws.

It would appear that you can buy a bag of the same size screws these days and you'll find a few that will fit, a few that won't and a few that aren't even screws.
