• Anyone fly wings?

Well I have bought a raven wing but could do with a bit of info on setting up on a Dx 7
Can you set it for a beginner what things do you change can you use expo duel rates
etc.
Can't find much info on setting these up other than calling rc wings all the time.
I need to get to grips with the set up.

Hi Chris, the Raven is a quick machine. All I can say is make sure that the C of G is absolutely bang on or even a bit towards the front. This will help settle it a bit. The other thing to do is set the neutral point of the elevons a little up elevator and then only give yourself say 10mm of movement up and down, use dual rates or set your ATV's to do this. When flying remove throttle and centre the right stick and see what way it wants to fly, either trim it in fligth to give neutral handling or adjust the control rods

I bought the complete kit with battery etc I'm guessing it will be the battery placement
to adjust the cg?
From what you said I need to get it to glide then trim it out to fly level.
It's a bit strange looking at wing setting in the Dx7 when all done is fly helis.

I struggled with it too Chris. If you can wait until later I can give you something to go with from my Tx. Buy some lead as even with battery placement it can still need a bit up front one you get the covering on. A bit too much webbing on the trailing edge is all it takes to upset it.

I fly a slipstream and once setup they are awesome to fly, helps with flying the heli too. Theres nothing like unpowered flight though. we take them to Charmouth every year and fly off the cliffs on the south Coast. Brilliant fun. I've got in mind a 6S slip for next year as one of the lads in the club had built a 3S rocket, that I have to beat. Only down side is that the packs don't last too long once your horsing about the sky. You might want to buy some more packs while your at it.

I've not long ago bought a Raven, been flying it quite alot recently. I found I had to put a bit more up on the elevons than it said and I've increased the throws as I found on the stock settings it didn't roll very quickly. Still doesn't but I'll soon sort that out :D I've got 175 watts of power on mine which gives unlimited vertical and on a 1300mAh 3 cell I still get about 6 - 7 mins of flight if I don't fly WOT.

Just put some LEDs on it for extending the flying day :eagerness:

As waveydavey says make sure you get the C of G spot on (slightly forward is better than slightly back) else it's a bugger to fly, real twitchy. I had to tape a 1p and 5p on the LIPO to get it to balance.

Don't have a DX7 but on the 9X you select aero as the model type and make sure that you set it up as delta mixing (elevon) and plug your servos into the Aileron and elevator channels as normal. If you mechanically set up the servos like you would a heli swash then you shouldn't have to play with endpoints and subtrim much if at all.

I use 50% dual rates with 10% expo for gentle flying and full rates and no expo for more acrobatic flying.

If yopu need any help PM me and I'll be happy to help if I can...

On the DX7 you need to select Delta Mixing as your wing is elevon controlled as mentioned above.

You have three variables with two values each: reversing aileron, reversing elevator and interchanging servo connectors between channels 2 and 3 on say an AR500. One of the 8 combinations will give you the right control.

I'm looking at getting the MS Composite Swift II on the advice of 3Djim. He has one with LED's & in flight it looks the dogs nads. I want one & will consult him on spec & set up & it's gonna have as many LED's as poss without making it too heavy lol. I can't wait, however i'm about to spend any hope of doing that on a set of tyres for my slabbie... £200 !!!! bloody motorcycle restorations

Finely got to fly the wing this weekend.
Tim at the club went over it give it a few tweeks then flew it.
Then handed it over to me I was pooing myself but I did have some glue so what the hell.
It was wicked did full 10+ mins flying no crashes .
It's helped with the heli flying as more height and distance its made my heli flying loads better.
