  • MD 900 Explorer

Christmas came a day early this year. Santa arrived in disguise, driving a well known delivery van and left 2 large cardboard boxes. Just over 2 weeks after ordering, my Vario MD 900 Explorer had arrived ! After unwrapping and first inspection, my emotions are a mixture of eagerness and terror, the kit looks extremely well made but there are bags and bags of stuff in it. As I still have to finish fitting a new kitchen, the build is likely to start in earnest in the new year and when I figure out how to take pictures of less than 11MB, I hope to post something of the progress. I did listen to some of the advice I got and decided on the 2 blade rotor instead of the 5 because it frees up power from the OS70 for the notar and it doesn't need any sophisticated electronics. I expect to take about 4 months to build, get the set up right using a DX7/AR7000 combination with a Spartan RC650 gyro and probably JR servos and painting in the colour scheme of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Should be fun a lot of fun.

    Regards,

    Andy

Hi there, Thanks for the link, Looks like a really nice Heli. Funnily enough I have been wondering of NOTAR was possible in a model heli. Can I be really cheeky and ask how much if you dont mind?

So far £1300. I have the Tx but still need to buy 4 servos, an Rx and a rotor starter, the one I have for my HPI NMT2 isn't man enough. I also haven't gone the whole scale bit with cockpit and controls but it does include opening doors and sliding panels. The 2 blade rotor keeps the cost down as well being easier to fly. Vario also do an MD520 which has the notar and the air frame is £50 cheaper. Before I decided on the Explorer I did a lot of market research, if you are interested, drop me a PM.

              Regards,

PS - Boggy, an Action man is far to large to be a scale hamster

If i'd spent all that I think i'd splash out on the scale cockpit!

Hope you enjoy building it, I love the idea of one when I can fly properly. Will be interested to see how you get on with this.

                regards
